Upon entering this little gem. One is greeted with quite a unique space. There is a quirky staircase that takes up a portion of the space, which gives cause for the seemingly odd table placement that adds some character. The three ladies that were running it were very, very pleasant and seemed to be genuinely interested in providing a friendly experience. They were more than willing to assist me with my order, working around my unfortunate food allergies. I ordered eggs Benedict with a side of avocado. They had just opened and asked if I minded waiting as the hollandaise had not yet been made. While waiting I had an orange juice. Looking around you notice a lot of the empty space along the walls had been filled with nick knacks and items from a bygone era. This added to the aesthetic and also gave me something to do look at during the short wait for my food. I sat at the window seat that looks over to the gardens, quite relaxing. So here I was in a city foreign to me, being soothed by an incredibly comfortable space. The music that was playing at an appropriate level would be what I would call a fusion of indie pop and jazz gave the perfect soundtrack to my breakfast. The food came, it was exactly what I ordered. A first for me was that it was a deconstructed Benedict, I liked that as I could build it how I enjoy it. The hollandaise had the tang that it is supposed to, eggs were perfectly poached. It was a delightful meal. So here I was having a lovely breakfast in a lovely space. With lovely music, just pondering life and enjoying myself. Had it not been for the occasional truck or bus roaring past, you could almost forget you were in Sydney and perhaps in another location like Daylesford or some other quaint little tourist town. All in all a great experience, with one small exception. The bench that I was at had a slight stickiness to it. It didn’t feel unclean, it felt like maybe the varnish on the wood was past it’s prime. However. Well done ladies, it was just really pleasant.
Everything was so good! Corn fritters were crispy and light, lamb sandwich was tender and full of flavour. Loved the lemon ricotta pancakes, fluffy, fresh and perfect with ice cream and berries. Drinks were refreshing and not too sweet. Would come back!
I am just gonna start by saying great food and great coffee. I do not live in Aus, but I always try to find a great place for coffee and food, which is hard since they close early (early for me). But it Cafe Portico was really worth it. Coffee had body, flavor and the eggs were super tasty. Can’t wait to come again. O yes…service was also very god, and staff is very helpful.
This cafe near the Wynyard station is very nice! They have wonderful food and acceptable price. The lamb ragu and prawn pasta are all delicious~
Great location right in the heart of Sydney CBD! The food was delicious — I especially loved the spicy prawn pasta, full of flavour and just the right amount of heat. Cozy atmosphere and friendly service. Definitely a spot I’ll come back to!
