Dog rules
Shoalhaven City Council's Dog Off-Leash Guide states: "Dogs in the Shoalhaven are required to be 'on leash'" unless in a designated off-leash area or dog-prohibited area. This venue is not named in Shoalhaven's off-leash list or prohibited list under D23/519887 (MIN23.740, December 2023), so the council-wide default on-leash rule applies. Dogs must be under the effective control of a competent person at all times under the NSW Companion Animals Act 1998. (Source: Shoalhaven City Council, MIN23.740 / D23/519887.)

What people say
Road in was very narrow and a bit scratchy, wasn’t stoked taking big van down it. The campsite didn’t look desirable gate was shut and so was the gate for road down to water. Had to carry kayaks and camping gear 200 meters down a step slippery hill with so many flys with it being 38 degrees. Drop toilet at camp site and one closer to water can’t camp there though. Paddled 4.5 ks to acacia flat and camped there which was good. A few people camping at all campsites nearby. Acacia seemed like the best others overgrown wanted to go to tallowa dam but seemed further and wanted choices of campsites. The water was lovely lots of fish jumping (didn’t catch anything) saw an eel and lots of little fish and a big rock cave was cool. The paddle back was hard when wind picked up. First time paddling to camp was nice wish we knew the details a little better. Tallowa dam road was shut, total fire ban and no reception.
Great spot to paddle a kayak or canoe. Wear a life jacket the can get cold. There is also a fun rope swing on the other side of the river called tiger snake camp spot Ps open as of 9 July 2025
There is a campground and parking at the end of the road. Campground is terrible - gravel/pebble surface, burned trees all around, ton of flies. There is also a gate, blocking the trail to the water. So you need to walk and carry anything you need the last 200m. Water quality, water access, scenery are terrible. Fishing from the shore is impossible due to debree at the bottom (if there is any fish anyway). Just don't bother
It's closed. That's why I've gotta give it a low score at this time. Bushfire damage apparently. It's an absolutely gorgeous drive in. I'm seriously contemplating dispersed camping in my car nearby at one of the trail heads (possibly Griffin's Walk). The road is unsealed and a little steep in areas. No major issues though. We have a subaru outback and we didn't have any slipping at all. You could get to the gate in 2wd. After that (once reopened) it states 4wd access only.. I'll wait to reopening to make my own assessment.
Nice woods leading to a serene lake. Amazing semi off-roading I would say!
