Dog-friendly parks in Blue Mountains

Lawson Fenced Dog Park is a large, fully enclosed space that was formerly a golf course, giving it a much bigger footprint than most fenced parks. The scale makes a noticeable difference, with plenty of room for dogs to roam and explore.

South Lawson Parklands is home to one of the few dog-friendly bushwalks in the Blue Mountains — a 3km loop passing four waterfalls (Adelina, Federal, Cataract, and Junction Falls) through temperate rainforest. Dogs must be on-leash on the circuit, but the scenery makes up for it. The track can be muddy and has some steep sections, so sturdy shoes are essential. On warmer days, there are shallow creek pools where dogs can splash and cool off between falls. The trailhead connects to the adjacent South Lawson Dog Park if your dog still has energy for an off-leash run afterwards.

Endeavour Park has a fenced off-leash dog area within a larger reserve that includes playgrounds, a skate park, and BBQ facilities. The dog enclosure has an agility course and is well-shaded, giving dogs room to move and things to do. The broader park is well-maintained with covered picnic areas and clean toilets. Dogs must be on-leash when entering and leaving the off-leash section.

Whitley Park is a fenced off-leash area in Blackheath with a mix of grass and sandy surfaces. The space is generous for a Blue Mountains park, with enough room for dogs to properly stretch out. There's an undercover shelter, drinking water, toilets, and waste bags. The locals are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. Shade from established trees helps on warmer days.

Lithgow Dog Park is a fenced off-leash area set against a backdrop of surrounding mountains. The space includes grass, trees, and a mix of planting that gives dogs plenty to explore and sniff.

Whitton Park is a small, fully fenced off-leash area in Glenbrook with established shade trees and seating. It has a single entry gate, waste bags, a bin, and a bubbler — though the area around the bubbler can pool with water after use. The size suits smaller or calmer dogs better than high-energy breeds that need more room to run. A couple of cafes are within walking distance.

Winmalee Dog Park is a fenced off-leash area with shade and waste bags provided. There's a regular morning meetup community — weekday walkers gather around 6:30am, with a later start on weekends. The park has some drainage infrastructure running through it that can create muddy patches in wet weather.

Katoomba Falls Reserve has off-leash access during restricted hours — weekday mornings from sunrise to 10am, and weekends after 5pm (except during organised sport). Outside these times, dogs must be on-leash. The reserve has parking, toilets, and waste bags. The night-lit walk through the reserve is a popular attraction.

Glenbrook Lagoon is a scenic on-leash walking loop around a peaceful lagoon in the lower Blue Mountains. The tracks are mostly dirt with some road sections, and there are seats and picnic tables along the way. The tree coverage keeps it cool and shaded. It's a quiet, pleasant walk that locals describe as a hidden gem.

Sun Valley Reserve is an off-leash area that's also used by the local pony club. The space is popular with locals and has a social, community atmosphere. It's a spacious park where dogs can run freely.

Pitt Park is a large off-leash oval in Wentworth Falls, with open space for running and ball games. It is partly fenced and well set up with water, bags, bins, toilets and parking, plus a cafe on site. Because it is also a sports ground, dogs need to keep clear when organised games are on, but at quieter times it feels spacious and easy.

Darwins Walk is a scenic on-leash track in Wentworth Falls, following the creek past small waterfalls, boardwalk sections and iron footbridges. The rebuilt route is fairly gentle overall, with one section of stairs and plenty of leafy detail along the way. It is one of the stronger local options when you want a proper dog-friendly walk rather than a park loop.

Queen Elizabeth Park is a handsome park in the centre of Lithgow, with rose gardens, mature shade and a well-regarded playground. Dogs are welcome on-leash, and the lawns and paths make it an easy place for a gentle walk or a picnic. Lithgow's fenced off-leash areas are elsewhere, so this is an on-leash stop. With toilets and parking close by, it suits a relaxed town-centre wander.

Leura Oval has a fenced off-leash dog area in the Blue Mountains, well suited to a secure run. Off-leash access is timed: every day from sunrise to 10am and again after 4pm, with dogs on-leash outside those hours. It draws a lively local crowd in the early mornings and late afternoons, and there are bag stations and toilets on hand. A practical, enclosed spot for off-leash exercise around the timed hours.

Lomatia Park is an on-leash walking area in Springwood — it's not a designated off-leash zone. The park is home to the Springwood District Dog Training Club. There are toilets, parking, and a playground. The open oval and surrounding streets make for a good on-leash walk.

Gloria Park is a clean, well-maintained park just out of Hazelbrook, with an oval, shade and a cafe on site. Dogs are welcome on-leash, and the open grounds make it an easy place for a walk in the Blue Mountains. There is parking, toilets, a playground and BBQ facilities for a longer visit. A pleasant, tidy spot for an on-leash walk with a coffee stop nearby.
