Hams Beach is a quiet off-leash beach at Swansea Heads with a relaxed, uncrowded atmosphere. There's some shade from vegetation at the back of the beach, and the setting feels more secluded than many of the busier dog beaches. Parking is available off Mawson Close, and there are bins provided. Council recently made changes to the off-leash boundaries, so check on-site signage for the current setup.
Off-leash area: Off-leash beach (access off Mawson Close, Caves Beach). Leash free at all times. Council recently made changes to this off-leash area — check on-site signage. Dogs must be supervised at all times and under effective control. Dogs are not permitted within 10 metres of playgrounds or BBQ areas, or within 400 metres of patrolled beaches. Dog owners must clean up after their dogs. Source: Lake Macquarie City Council – Off-leash areas (lakemac.com.au/For-residents/Pets/Exercising-your-dog/Off-leash-areas)
GREAT DOG FRIENDLY BEACH . NAMED AFTER WILLIAM HENRY HAM, WHO WAS FIRST TO SETTLE IN THE AREA. SEVERAL GENERATIONS OF THE HAM FAMILY OCCUPIED THE AREA FOR ABOUT 100YRS AND DESPITE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO RENAME IT SWANSEA HEADS, SWANSEA BEACH AND EVEN CHANGING IT TO CAVES BEACH BUT IT DIDN'T GO DOWN WELL AND THAT IS WHY THE BEACH IS SPLIT IN TWO AND THE FAR END REMAINS HAMS BEACH. WILLIAM HENRY HAM IS MY GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER ON MY FATHERS MOTHERS SIDE. I AM NOT A HAM. WILLIAM IS BURIED AT BELMONT CEMETERY .
An amazing rocky beach and great for taking young children or your four legged friend! The rock pools are mostly shallow and great for finding crabs and other sea creatures. The walk from the car park is quite short, although a bit steep in places. A very quiet beach and fabulous to spend a few hours here.
Quite little swim spot used mostly by locals calm waters good spot for kayaks and paddle boards dog friendly some nice shady spots on the beach some parking a lot of eeed in the water and shore line popular fishing spot of the rocks
Travelled some hours to let dogs enjoy the beach and it rained. Oh well, we spent some time there and the dogs had a great time. Lack of car parking made us extra vigilant exiting and re-entering the car.
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
