New moon, new beginnings. The symbology of a white crescent speaks to renewal, light, guidance and transformation. This park holds a concrete band rotunda in its centre that has historical significance to Kandos – bands once filled the town with music on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons; robust conversation, public discussions and union meetings. A place of this place. Look toward the mountains and see rocks over the roofs. We can imagine a brass band playing in golden afternoon light, with families and friends scattered around on picnic rugs. This is a beautiful piece of interstructure waiting to be reinvigorated. A very well-loved and tended space, brimming with pride. There is a BBQ, water tap, pebble-crete table, dog tap and bowl, bin, shrubs and trees; shade is abundant with trees zig-zagging throughout the park. Species witnessed at the park: many galahs, magpies, rosellas x 1 and crows x 1. The patron saint of parks visits this park regularly. We haven’t discovered anything further about the rumoured hidden time capsule. What do magpies dream of? What would happen if we let the grass grow long? With streaming and other forms of entertainment so readily available, we wonder if this is what has rendered the rotunda underutilised. Recommendations: regular music and discussions featuring human music and sounds, as well as melodies and mimicry from magpies, bees, galahs and rosellas. Add some fruit trees so we can all feast and listen. Add a community noticeboard near the information signs at the front of the park, to tell visitors and locals of all that’s happening in Kandos.
