Ghosties Beach is a dog-friendly beach in Moonee with on-leash walking areas and plenty of shade.
Dogs are only allowed to be off-leash in leash-free designated areas approved by Lake Macquarie City Council. Dogs must be on a leash and under effective control at all times in all other public places. Dogs are not permitted within 10 metres of playgrounds or BBQ areas, or within 400 metres of patrolled beaches. Dog owners must clean up after their dogs. Easy walk to the beach through some greenery and a board walk. Nice, clean and picturesque beach but unpatrolled. If there had been some basic facilities like water and a composting toilet I would have given 5 stars. Ghosties beach is home to one of the largest beach side caves in NSW. The caves can be accessed only during low tide. From the Moonies Beach keep walking through the sand over the sand dunes to reach the Ghosties beach. The reef structures themselves are so beautiful and provided the shade for us and we did not need any tent or beach umbrella...
Great beach with accessible caves at low tide. The walk is about 1.2 km along the beach from Moonee Beach access track. Parking is free on the road parallel to Surfside Drive but it’s a tiny road and you’ll need to park off to the side. The walk is easy enough and leads to a cave through the rocks at the far end. You will need to time it with low tide and a small swell to allow easy, safe access. Water was crystal clear and sand is very white. Well worth a day out.
An amazing place to spend the day. The caves are beautiful but make sure to check the tides & swell before venturing inside them.
A perfectly untouched stretch of white sandy beach, crystal clear water, and picturesque cliff faces. Everywhere you look is perfection. You can only access Ghosties Beach via Moonee Beach so it’s one of those must-see destinations. At the other end of the beach, yes more walking, is the spectacular cave. It might take a while to reach, but it’s well worth the journey.
Nice secluded beach to get away from it all. Very quiet even on weekends. If you find the caves and venture in always be careful of waves and go at low tide with small swell.
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
