What people say
Had a wonderful lunch with former workmates. Food was very tasty and good size meals. Plenty of parking and a great place for a catch up and chat
What on earth has happened to our favourite place? Has it changed hands? Went for lunch and was presented with (I'm sad to say), some incredibly disappointing food. To start with we were somewhat perplexed at the choices available considering the fact that this is one of the hottest months of the year, the majority of entrees and mains more suitable for cooler weather (see menu pic). We started with the Bruschetta Campania which was absolutely awful. A big slop of tomatoes (NOT at all charred as per the description, in fact some were under ripe and unpleasant to eat), very bland with a few basil leaves providing the only flavour. Drowning in this mess was a large slice of sourdough that was basically mush with a crust. We then had the zucchini flowers. A few small zucchinis (cooked well), with tiny flowers along with some shredded zucchini, sitting in an incredibly bland soup of ricotta (which actually tasted more like cream), and some oil. As for the mint - couldn't taste it at all. The only positive notes were the fries and the coffee. So sad to say that we won't be back (to what was previously one of our favourite places) anytime soon. I did notice a name change, so I can only assume that there has been a change of owner.
A pleasant Cafe, with good quality coffee. The chosen meal from the Lunch menu, a Pork sausage Ragu, was, however, a disappointment. The 'ragu' sauce was only tomato based, with few extra flavour notes. The pork sausage was cooked in its skin, (separately?) then cut into pieces, and served in chunks, rather than cooked through the sauce as mince, which is necessary to provide the richness of a true ragu. This resulted in a thin, tomato dominant sauce that did not meet the 'ragu' description. The accompanying pasta was nicely cooked.
Absolutely horrible cafe. Note- Ngununggula is excellent and worth many visits. At this cafe, we were exceptionally neglected by the inept cafe staff. We are easy-going, but he buffoons 'serving' us elevated our frustrations exponentially. We were never greeted or even acknowledged, had to get our own menus, find a table, had several increasingly frustrated interactions with the staff and increasingly forceful checks our finally ordered food was on the way, after 40 minutes of painful hunger, I was forgotten and the waiter told me he understood that that 'must be frustrating' and they were 'busy' with several vacant reserved tables. We had no choice but to leave (both still hungry) and upon expressing this 'frustration' the main offending watier did not even apologise- We just got attitude. We were at this place Aug'25. AVOID this mess until you have checked that the staff or management have changed or magically exponentially improved. We are passionate supporters of Ngununggula, and continue to love the gallery. Shame the so-called cafe makes patrons leave unfed and hangry.
First visit back for a couple of years. The food and coffee was very nice again. We had the Reuben and it was a nice and tasty take on that style of dish. The service was sour to start from both servers but it warmed a little towards the end Two years ago Cute little cafe. Hipster style. Nice menu. The open sandwich was a triumph. Absolutely delicious and just the right size. House made kombucha too. A delicious brunch. Lovely service. You can’t do a cafe much better than this one here.
