Lovely to stumble across this place on our travels. Very classy, high end restaurant, with cosy bar with fireplace inside. Dogs allowed outside and there were gas heaters which made it comfort. Beautiful grounds!
Great atmosphere. Nice outdoor seating. Lovely indoor music. Awesome music inside and out. Very friendly, attentive staff. Loved the menu. Plenty of choice and great value. Very quick service. Food super fresh and tasty. Loved the tiramusu. Highly recommend
We went here for a Sunday lunch, excited to experience a beautiful, heritage country venue. With the mother-in-law visiting from the UK we thought it a great excuse for a lovely meal. How wrong we were. The venue is pretty, but strange that such a high-end location boasts such a bland canteen-style set up in the main dining room. Even stranger that when guided to our seat in the bong bong room (which we chose specifically for an ‘intimate dining experience’ as per the website) we were informed we had to go back to the canteen to place our order just like a basic pub! We ordered the roast chicken, spanner crab pasta and beef pie. The pie was great (and the reason for 2 stars not 1), but the roast chicken was just chicken and chips which for the price tag we expected something slightly better than something you could get at oporto. And the spanner crab pasta was just awful. Swimming in cold water, the pasta was far from al dente and there was zero flavour in the whole dish. We did tell the waiter when he cleared our plates that the food wasn’t too great, but we never saw him or another member of staff again. We had planned to get desert and more drinks, but didn’t want to continue sinking money into this establishment when everything had been so mediocre to that point. Overall: overpriced and overrated. Give this place a miss.
Went here for dinner with the boys the night of the Bowral Cycling Classic. It was very quiet, plenty of seating options and easy parking. The setting and view as the sunset was phenomenal. The dining experience was wonderful and the food was amazing. Bar experience was also great and it was such a great way to end our weekend in the southern highlands. Will definitely be coming back for dinner next time I visit.
As per the other reviews The Briars in pricey, $12 for a schooner of tap beer is the dearest I have seen. In saying that the venue is great, bistro staff are great. The food is very, very good and you do get what you pay for. Almost took a star off for no Guinness glass for the Guinness and bar girl having no idea how to pour a Guinness. Not a cheap night out but worth a visit.
