Montview Park and Oval is a dog-friendly park in Hornsby Heights with plenty of shade.
Dogs must be on a leash in all public places unless in a designated off-leash area. Keep your dog in sight at all times. Pick up and dispose of all waste correctly. Do not let your dog rush at or harass other dogs and people. Source: Hornsby Shire Council – Off-leash dog areas (hornsby.nsw.gov.au).
A nice spacious playground, although you can't really call it enclosed as the three gates are rarely pushed shut. It has a climbing frame and slide for toddlers, and one for slightly bigger kids but I can still hear the grating sound of those squeaky swings!
Across the mowed expanse of the oval- behind the ball sports catch fences- one can see some tantalizing rivulets of formed dirt beckoning. Montview isn’t a BMX track; but it is a rare gem in the Greater Sydney of 2021- namely, an easily accessible suburban dirt jump track with just enough features and edginess to keep all ages of rider interested. From a central, elevated mound, riders can roll off in either direction to enjoy one of three quick circuits. There are two modest kicker jumps (both have been rounded out with over-use) but they’re enough to get both tyres off the ground and even whip it if you have the skills. There was a silent digger parked at the end of this track, so perhaps custodians Hornsby Council are intending to bestow some TLC upon this rare, hallowed slice of officially blessed mtb earth? Two bermed corners either side of the central mound will get bicycle cornering skills on point, and there is a fun selection of gentle rollers leading you to and from these berms. On the central line there is a modest gap jump if you want to progress your jump skills. During a hot day one can sit under the shade of a few trees bordering the oval, and take a breather whilst enjoying the lovely views over Provest Creek Valley. There’s also public toilets and drinking water nearby, courtesy of the sports oval. And the lovely Corner Café is just a few minutes ride away at the intersection of Somerville and Galston Roads!
Nice big oval which has two cricket pitches that could be played simultaneously. Have a small play area for kids as well.
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
