Great stop on our road trip. Gumnut Patisserie has an amazing selection of cakes, pastries, and pies. We had coffee and a meat pie, both were excellent with a perfectly flaky crust. The shop is spacious, clean, and the staff were friendly. Definitely worth stopping if you’re passing through the Southern Highlands.
This was a really great set up, for the best Patisserie we have been to. We were advised by the Mittagong Caravan park, that we were staying at. To go to the Patisserie in Mittagong. As the other two they have at Berrima and Bowral. Get even more customers lined up outside. Where the queues are even bigger than Mittagong. We went to Mittagong on 1/3/26, on a Sunday morning. At 10-30 am. There was a small line up to the front door. They had 3 girls behind the counter taking orders and three registers. They were well organised and the line of customers moved quickly. They also have a separate area inside. For your Barista coffee. Also large drinks fridges. Heaps of room in front of glass counters, to see what you can order. Every thing and everyone was very orderly. Patiently waiting to order. At 11-00 the staff had a time to breathe, with only a few customers. Until the next rush of customers. Which did come as we were leaving. Another queue did appear.
Excellent pastries! We had a selection of pies, sausage roll and a lamination. Everything was excellently made, great flakey pastry, lamination was light and delicious. Highly recommend.
We got recommended this patisserie from Reddit and so glad we made the detour. Pies and sausage roll were really tasty and the pastry was amazing. The vanilla slice was hands down the best vanilla slice we have ever tasted. The other desserts were also really delicious.
Came in for lunch and got the beef and potato pies in addition to hot chocolate, strawberry milkshake and chocolate mousse with caramel. Both pies tasted ok, the pastry itself was great, nice and flaky and soft. Taste of filling was on par with any other standard mass produced meat pie such as Mrs Mac’s and four n twenty (if I am to be honest), next time I will go, I will try one of the gourmet pie flavours so that I can see if they were mindblowing. The chocolate mousse with caramel was ok also, definitely better than most (both texture and taste), however, again nothing really worth driving an hour to eat. The hot chocolate was nice, the strawberry milkshake was absolutely horrendous! I only finished it as I needed something to wash out the taste of the pie and mousse from my mouth. Like it literally tasted like a couple pumps of the cheapest strawberry syrup with a very strange tasting milk (at least put some effort in it and throw in a few fresh or frozen strawberries so it tastes somewhat like strawberries).. was just a very artificial tasting milkshake. Customer service was amazing, very friendly and helpful), however the lines were not clear….. didn’t know where the lines were, if we were pushing in, where people were waiting for their orders etc. This needs a bit of work. There were quite a few tables outside which were cleared and bins were emptied quite regularly also. A lot of car park spots available on the premises and along the street.
