Decided to try out the new tavern after the initial mixed reviews. Parking is easy and will be better when shopping complex is finished. Went on a Monday night, 4 adults and 2 kids. It was fairly busy, not too loud, which is a big plus for me. Easy access for disabled. Fresh decor. Kids area inside glass area close to dining area so you can keep an eye on them. Had the garlic bread as starter. Little on small size. We ordered chicken parmigiana x 2 which were a big portion and cooked perfect. Also had the salt and pepper squid (little spicy) and a Tbone steak. Photos attached. Kids meals very big sized. Pizza in photo kids. Overall, we were very happy with the venue and size of meals and price about right. Make sure you become a member(free) to receive drinks and meal discounts.
My new local. Been here twice now. Garlic bread cob loaf is great. Plain Schnitzel is great. Chips are very good. The cheap pizza topping ham on parmi needs to go. The nachos brisket beef is way too sweet. Overall it’s good, but chefs needs to revise the ingredients on the menu.
Stopped in for lunch for the new menu and the chef has gone all out!! Great pub feed with a proper chef twist! Had the pork belly (juicy with well cooked skin) with grilled Dutch carrots, chats, peas and house made apple puree wich was made perfect and the wife had her usual nachos that she can’t turn up…. All round 15 out of 10! Cant wait to see the specials in the upcoming
Great place for a pub lunch with friends and family. Good atmosphere, selection of beers and amount of sport on the TV’s. Really good food and service!! 2 👍’s up to all the staff and managers!
As a local I was excited with the concept of a new pub. I had tried the old tavern out twice and food was good as you’d expect for the style of bistro it was. With the brand new tavern opening, I was hoping for a very good experience and had hoped for decent beer range for a more modern world. I knew going in that the beer range was only commercially owned, the menu prices were higher for a suburban pub, very mixed reviews since re-opening but I also had heard good things from friends that tried it. Unfortunately I did not experience the same. My wife had lamb cutlets, they were nice but nothing too exciting, I was surprised with the duck fat potatoes not having any crunch… they were more of a duck fat confit cooked potato and served with a standard oud salad. I had a the southern fried chicken burger, the chicken was tasty and well cooked but the only good thing about it which made me feel I just ordered a big chicken nugget, the bacon jam was average, the mustard overpowered and lacked good balance but over all the bun killed the whole meal as it was so dry and stale it crumbled like bread crumbs. There is no way I’d ever serve a bun that fry and stale especially in a nice new establishment like that. I will go back to try something else from the menu but doubt I’ll return if I’m disappointed again and will go the extra distance to the Fire Station or even Jesmond Hotel which I’ve had great experiences at.
