Forestville War Memorial Playing Fields includes the fenced Purple Poppy Dog Park, which is off-leash 24 hours — a secure option any time of day. There is an additional off-leash area on Field 3 at the southern end on set hours (check the signage), with dogs kept off the synthetic fields. The wider grounds take in an extensive Anzac memorial pathway, with toilets, parking and a playground on hand. A spacious spot, with the fenced dog park the easy choice for off-leash time.
This place has many signs saying that dogs must be on a leash. Many times there are half a dozen big dogs on the loose. That prevents dogs on leashes from safely going there. The council isn’t interested at all in doing anything about it. When reporting big loose dogs they ask if we’re sure because they don’t want us to waste the rangers’ time. Of course, the rangers are flat-out booking motorists for parking technicalities.
An extensive area of sports and playing fields, an extensive Anzac Memorial Pathway with plinths commemorating our Service men and women throughout our history, Poppy Park which is a children's playground, off-leash dog parks, on Melwood Avenue in Forestville, adjacent to the Forestville RSL Club and it's bowling Green. A wonderful community facility, for families, dog-walking, and remembering those who have served our country.
This park has one problem that many people complain about, every thing else is good though. The one thing that needs work is the basketball hoops. What do you mean the nets are literally hanging on for dear life?
I usually run around the soccer fields which has artificial turf, excellent for running as I don’t need to worry about uneven surfaces. Usually quite busy with kids soccer practices, Aussie rules and cricket in summer but you can usually find a little area for some sprints etc. There are also some netball courts and a grass rugby field as well.
Excellent how there is a tennis court, 2 artificial turf fields, a few real grass smaller fields, a skatepark, netball courts, rugby field and a basketball court!!
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
