What people say
This isn’t a suburb where I’d expect Southeast Asian food to thrive — it’s very white, very old money, and honestly not that open to “new things.” But Berempah doesn’t try to prove itself. It doesn’t oversell culture or shout about tradition. It just shows up with clean flavours, solid technique, and a price point that sits comfortably in the $25–30 “local favourite” zone. The pork belly? Genuinely excellent. The crisp is deliberate, not aggressive, with a hint of tamarind glaze that lifts the fat without overpowering it. The Ayam Berempah has that tight spice crust that tells you someone in the kitchen cares. Rendang is mellow, roti a bit dry but the dips redeem it, and the black sticky rice closes the meal softly — pandan or not, it’s a win. This isn’t a restaurant trying to be “authentic.” It’s a restaurant that’s figured out how to belong. And that’s why it works.
I had the most delicious Malaysian food in Sydney. Every dish was so tasty. I highly recommend the coconut milk shrimp. The environment is very nice and the staff are very enthusiastic.
Great spot in Balmain! The food is delicious with authentic Malaysian and Thai flavors. Portion sizes are generous and everything tasted fresh. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff were very friendly. Highly recommend the curry and crispy pork dishes. Will definitely come back!
Very good experience! Ayam Berempah is sooooo juicy and crunchy pretty love it! Crispy chicken curry is a must try as well, the curry is with light coconut flavour and very fresh. Pork belly lover and pad kee mao is also nice!
Had a wonderful experience at Berempah Thai Fusion! The dishes were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. I especially enjoyed the Tom Yum soup and crispy chicken curry – perfectly balanced with just the right amount of spice. The roti with beef was a standout, and the banana roti was the perfect sweet finish. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with friendly staff who made the dining experience even better. Portion sizes are generous and everything tasted authentic yet creative. Definitely a great spot for anyone who loves Thai fusion food. Highly recommend coming here!
