Large open camp site near the river with two drop toilets. There is one large open area and several smaller clearings through hard-to-spot paths in the bush which offer a more private experience, including some right next to the river. There is a year round fire ban as it’s in the middle of a vulnerable blue gum grove, however people ignored these signs and still lit fires.
The campground consists of flat areas to set up tents and two dropdown toilets. There is no reception and very noisy Zikades during the whole day. Access to the Govetts Creek. Excellent stop for the beautiful hikes in the area. Booking required. Free site, but 6$ booking fee
I recently (September '23) had the pleasure of visiting Acacia Flat Campground in the Blue Mountains, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience! The adventure begins with a challenging descent from Perry's Lookdown to Blue Gum Forest, which spans a steep 520 meters. This path is adorned with rocky terrain, bushy landscapes, and occasional steps, so I'd recommend packing light to ease the strain on your knees and calves. Keep in mind that alternative routes to the campsite present their own unique challenges. Once you arrive at the campground, you'll find yourself surrounded by lush, overgrown bush, creating an authentic and immersive camping environment. It's essential to note that fires are not allowed, although it seems that some visitors choose to ignore this rule. While I can't vouch for enforcement, I would caution against lighting fires, especially during dry summer months, as this could pose a safety hazard. To ensure a comfortable stay, be sure to pack an ample supply of water and ready-to-eat food if you prefer not to cook. The campground provides longdrop toilets, but their cleanliness may vary, so come prepared. One of the highlights of Acacia Flat Campground is the nearby creek, perfect for a refreshing dip. Navigating the area can be a bit tricky, so I recommend bringing a compass and offline maps on your phone, or even a trusty topographical paper map. With these tools, you can confidently explore the beautiful surroundings while ensuring you never lose your way. Acacia Flat offers a unique and challenging camping experience amidst the stunning Blue Mountains. While it has its quirks, like the steep descent and ascent it's a gem for nature enthusiasts who appreciate a bit of adventure. Just be sure to come prepared, and you'll have a memorable time in this beautiful wilderness.
Very spread out so it’s easy to find a private nook. I went on a weekday in September and saw almost no one the entire time. There was one other camper on the whole site which is over 200m in length. We treated and drank water from Govett’s, but there is also Orangutang. Both nights possums and native mice came and made quite a bit of noise trying to go through our stuff - the possums will raid your rubbish bag! Keep in mind that the ascent/descent from Perry’s is steep and long.
Very steep! So steep going down you can barely see where the steps turn to at one points. At least 85% incline on the way back if not more. Little creek to collect water very close to journey entrance however after that nothing much until you reach camp. On a hot day, prepare at least 2L when heading back up as if the sun is coming down on you noon time you’ll definitely go through all of it! Such a perfect challenge for a weekend escape. The river is totally worth it, clearer than most close to Sydney. One of my faves and can’t wait to go back again and again.
