Elly Beach is a park in Budgewoi Peninsula. Dogs are generally allowed on a lead in NSW public parks unless signs say otherwise — but the rules here aren't confirmed, so check local signage before visiting.
Mysterious destination that requires wending along a narrow, unsignposted, sandy track through dense low bush, starting at the left-hand side of the roadside parking bay, which seems to be a local fly tipping site and informal public toilet. Eventually you come out to the top of high sand dunes and can see far along the coast either way, including Nora Head to the south, and out to cliff-ringed Bird Island. If you go down from the track's end in the dunes to the beach, be sure to leave a trail of obvious deep footprints as you will need to be able to follow them back up to the track's end for your safe return journey. Not sure about safety to swim at the beach. There is an offshore sand bar running parallel close to the beach edge that breaks the full force of incoming waves. Hard to tell if there are any rips. There were stinging bluebottles washed up on the beach, so a potential hazard. Beautiful lonely site.
Beautiful secluded beach. It’s a bit of a hike from the road through the bush, where we spotted a few red belly black snakes. There is only enough parking for about 4 cars. Otherwise the beach and view are spectacular.
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
