What people say
We were really looking forward to staying at Bannisters Pavilion Mollymook for our baby moon, but unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing. For nearly $700 a night, we expected a well-maintained, comfortable beautiful — instead, the hotel felt run down and not taken care of at all. There were cobwebs, stains on the carpet, and an overall sense that the room and hotel itself hadn’t been properly refreshed in a long time. The pool is tiny and facing the road. When we went up to the rooftop with the lounges they were all covered and had cobwebs all over them so was not nice or inviting to lounge around. The bathroom flooded after a simple shower, and we had to request a rubber mat just to be able to use it safely. Honestly, we’ve had far better accommodation at 2–3 star hotels for a fraction of the price. We don’t normally leave negative reviews, but this stay really missed the mark. For the cost, we expected so much more. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t return or recommend based on this experience.
We had a decent stay here on our way through the area. Our room was nice, with a comfortable bed and two armchairs. The room smelled lovely on entry and the bath products were great. Free tea and coffee were available in the room. Staff were friendly and car parking was easy. However, there were definite negatives - the bathroom door didn’t fully shut (it has a sort of magnet closure) which wasn’t the most private, WiFi was slow, the balcony in the room overlooked a carpark, the room wasn’t well soundproofed (my partner was woken up in the night by noises including from outside the hotel) and the breakfast that was “included” in the room rate was the smallest breakfast spread I have ever seen at a hotel - most items (including barista coffee) came at an additional cost. I would certainly plan to eat breakfast elsewhere next time, and if you’re a light sleeper it’s probably worth packing earplugs! Restaurant reviewed separately.
Stayed for a third time at the Pavilion in August 2025. We like the Classic rooms which are large, nicely appointed and large wall to wall windows. The King size bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is a good size with bench space on both sides of the basin for toiletries and the hot water is great and the water pressure in the shower is excellent. Good air con and bar fridge with water and milk and the usual tea and coffee facilities. Breakfast at the rooftop bar and grill is very well done with a selection of continental components that you can serve yourself, then an a la carte selection is offered. We ate at the rooftop that night and yes it is a bit pricey but we spent 2 nights at the lovely Cupitts Estate prior to Bannisters and the prices were in a similar range. When we checked in we could hear a dog barking but didn't think much of it until later in the day when there was more barking. We learned on the last day that there are 2 dog rooms, room 101 and room 120 on the ground floor. Unfortunately we were allocated room 109 which was across the corridor from room 120. We were not informed we would be near a dog room nor given an opportunity to select another room. The barking dog across the corridor was clearly audible from the reception area and from inside our room, there was more barking in the afternoon and we were woken on the final morning at 7 am with more barking. Even the relaxing breakfast at the rooftop bar was subject to a barking dog on both mornings. I mentioned the barking a couple of times to staff but the reaction was just a polite smile. From what we could see it seemed to be condoned by staff/management. On check out we were offered a nights accommodation credit as we had been kept awake all night by the barking. I pointed out that it was not us, we were woken up early and it must have been another guest that was affected during the night. I thanked them but we would not be taking advantage of the offer as we won't be returning.
I saw some negative reviews and was a bit worried but we had a wonderful time at Bannisters Pavillion this week on a 3 night package deal. Our room was lovely, spacious, clean and had ample amenities....all we could ask for really. It had a very comfortable king bed...yes a small, quiet carpark right under window but the tree view was lovely and all we really looked at. We thought the breakfast was excellent and the staff in the restaurant were outstandingly and everywhere were very helpful, professional and friendly. Although midwinter I used the pool twice as it is heated so just a nice temperature for a pool swim and not freezing. I loved the bar lounge area to sit and relax and the downstairs lounge with fire place was very cosy. They had lots of board games there for young and old. We would definitely return.
We stayed here for two nights. Cocktails at the roof top bar were delicious but tasted like mocktails. I couldnt taste alcohol in them at all! We booked here for dinner at 6pm,a bit disappointed that the short beef rib was already sold out. Ordered the steak for $58 which came with fries and some very sad, green leaves. For $58, there should be a veggie option that doesn't cost extra. Pool was nice but in a pretty awkward spot right in front of the restaurant. Our room was ok for $330 a night as a deal through luxury escapes. It was on the smaller side. Downfall was no extra pillows and the hardest bed I've ever slept on. The bed alone is reason for us not to stay here again. Staff were lovely and very friendly/helpful. Cute coffee van is open at the entrance in the mornings. Nice selection of toasties, muffins and pastries. Our breakfast was included, small buffet and a la carte menu. I had the brekky bruschetta and it was lovely! Overall, our stay was ok but the hard bed felt like I was sleeping on a concrete floor. I probably wont stay here again, especially at full price.
