I hadn’t been to Wests for years but recently was in the area & decided to have lunch there with family. It’s a large club with variety of ‘areas’ within. We ate in the bistro area where there was plenty of seating on a Friday. Parking is under shade cloth which is great. Reception staff were friendly & welcoming. The bistro has a huge menu including starters , pasta , schnitzel, seafood dishes, pizzas , burgers , grill & other meals available. There was a lunch special menu (mon - fri) $10 members $16 visitors with around 6-8 options to choose from. The mains menu was very expensive in my opinion, with a large portion of the meals between $30-$50. Burgers & pasta were in the $24-$30 range depending on membership. We ordered a cheesy garlic bread to share which was delicious. Other family members had the chicken burger & beef burger : chips delicious, burgers great. (Generous portions ). I ordered the Creamy Chicken Pesto Spaghetti that comes with Parmesan & parsley. Very tasty with a lil salt & pepper needed. Cold beer & friendly staff. Great pub food definitely worth a visit.
Great customer service from the foyer staff through to the bar staff. Always enjoy my experience coming to this club. Love the karaoke nights. Free entertainment and fun for all ages. You can make a night of it with family & friends by starting off with a meal.
The Nashville chicken burger at Wests seriously surprised me. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside, incredibly juicy inside, and packed with flavour. The spice had a nice Nashville-style kick without being overwhelming, balanced really well by the creamy slaw and soft bun. Way better than expected and genuinely one of the best chicken burgers I’ve had in the Illawarra. Fries were on point as well.
hadnt eaten at Wests Illawarra for a couple of years but thought we would give it another go. We both ordered crumbed veal as usually you only ever see crumbed chicken on the menu. I got chips and salad and my partner got mash and veggies. When the meals came out the first thing you noticed was the thick commercial crumbs on the "veal". More than likely these werent crumbed in house but came frozen in a box. The crumbs were very thick and chewy. The meat inside was dark, strong flavoured and chewy and not close to being veal. If youre going to sell crumbed steak then dont put it on your menu as veal. It was not veal.My salad was sad. A couple of green lettuce leaves, a big lump of coleslaw and a piece of tomato. My partners veggies were carrot, peas and broccoli. All had been boiled to death and couldnt have been any more over cooked if they tried. Another horrible meal
Firstly I tried to provide feedback on the contact form on the website and it kept rejecting. I would have preferred to do it that way but apparently this is the only option available. I will also be making a phone call. We've just returned from Christmas lunch - the second time we've been. Last year service was prompt, food was hot and we had a lovely time which is why we booked again this year. We booked for 12noon - with a 92 yo diabetic/celiac who is used to eating at 11.30. By 12.45 we had still not received any food. Several other tables of diners in our section were looking extremely frustrated and at least one complained about the delay. Then a plate of 'complimentary' mini quiches were delivered which were not gluten free. Last year prawns and ham were optional at extra cost and we did not order them because we knew the meal would be too big for us. This year they were included - for an increased price - which was fine, but when the food came it was all served together so while eating the prawns the hot food was getting cold - and it was only lukewarm to start with, and the beans were undercooked. There was way too much food - we took home 2 large takeaway containers of leftovers and most people we saw leaving also had multiple boxes. Ham and prawns should have remained optional and the price not increased or prawns should have been served earlier as an entree and remaining dishes come out later and HOT. On leaving we spoke to a staff member who confirmed there were twice as many patrons as last year - but there didn't appear to be twice as many staff so it's no wonder service was slow - especially as we became aware bookings were still being taken on Christmas Eve so how could staff be rostered appropriately when there was no cutoff date. Seems it might have been more about $$ than providing great meals and good service. Sadly we've decided we wont be going again next year.
