Old Bar Tavern is a bar in Old Bar with an outdoor area. Dog access isn't confirmed, but venues with an outdoor area are often dog friendly, so it may be worth checking.
My family went here on Australia Day, and some people were hosting thong throwing competitions, a spicy wing eating competition, a water slide, and there was some live music sitting up as we left. The atmosphere was electric; everyone got involved and hyped up all the activities. I participated in the wing eating competition and they were very spicy indeed! Everyone was gathering around for that which was also very fun. The wait time for our food was a bit long, maybe half an hour, probably because there were a lot of people, which there often are. They do have pretty good food, and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. You WILL find me here Australia Day next year for a second go at those wings!
Food was incredible, burger, bolognese and salads would highly recommend. Gravy was a little too garlicky for our tables liking. Lady taking food orders had amazing service, younger man with glasses had a terrible attitude towards, everyone slamming takeaway boxes when we asked for one.
Booked a table for a large group for dinner and for my 12 year old twin boys to try the open mic night. Restaurant was very busy so food took a long time but was tasty and hot when it came. The pizzas are very popular and very good. The people organising the open mic night were very friendly and helpful but it was a bit hard to hear the performers over the crowd noise. Friendly service behind the bar. Obviously a popular spot especially in school holidays.
Definitely the place to turn right, when you reach Taree. Well worth the visit, because the food coming out of this kitchen is absolutely amazing. Swordfish steak with extra seafood topper. Steak stack of rump, ribs n wins. Both meals were amazing. Service was exceptional, as was the beer selection. Outdoor areas are a wonderful addition to make for a great lunchtime afternoon.
Stopped in at the Old Bar last Sunday for dinner and tried the pork roast. The meat itself was really nice, but unfortunately the rest was pretty underwhelming. Veggies had zero flavour, everything was cold (except the pork, which was just lukewarm), and the overall meal was disappointing. There was also some confusion around the “complimentary dessert” that’s written right above the counter—when I asked, staff said they didn’t know about it. On the plus side, the craft beer was reasonably priced at $8.90 for a Balter, but that’s about the only highlight. Sadly, I wouldn’t go back—the food just didn’t deliver.
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
