Ted Jackson Reserve is the sprawling, grassy foreshore area adjoining the southern end of the popular Dee Why Beach in Sydney's Northern Beaches. It's a fantastic spot that acts as the perfect family-friendly hub for a beach day. Highlights of the Reserve Location, Location, Location: Its position right next to the beach, the promenade, and the dining strip of The Strand is unbeatable. You can easily transition from the sand to the grass for a picnic or play. Fenced Playground: The reserve features the Michaela Howie Playground, which is fully fenced, partially shaded by pine trees, and offers a good variety of equipment for children of different ages. This is a massive plus for families. Outdoor Activities: A unique and popular feature is the outdoor table tennis table. Don't forget to bring your own bats and ball! The reserve's open space is also great for kicking a ball, sunbathing, or enjoying a picnic. Amenities & Events: There are picnic tables and the area is a focal point for major local events, including New Year's Eve fireworks and community gatherings, making it a lively and well-maintained public space. Overall Verdict on the Reserve: Highly recommended, especially for families. It provides a relaxed, well-equipped green space that perfectly complements a day at the beach. 🌊 Nearby Attractions in Dee Why & Surrounds The Ted Jackson Reserve puts you in the heart of Dee Why, with a wealth of attractions just steps or a short drive away: Right Next Door Dee Why Beach and Rockpool: The main attraction! The beach is known for its surf, particularly the Dee Why Point break. At the southern end, adjacent to the reserve, is the fabulous 50-metre ocean swimming pool and a shallow toddler's wading area, perfect for calmer swims. The Strand Dining Precinct: Directly opposite the reserve and along the beachfront, you'll find a vibrant strip of cafes, restaurants, and bistros offering everything from quick takeaway to wood-fired pizza and cocktails. Great for a post-swim meal or coffee. Walks & Nature Dee Why Headland Walk: Starting from the southern end, this scenic coastal trail offers spectacular views as it winds its way through coastal bushland toward North Curl Curl Beach. Dee Why Lagoon Wildlife Refuge: Located at the northern end of Dee Why Beach, this protected area is a haven for native birds and offers walking trails for nature lovers and bird watchers. Stony Range Regional Botanical Garden: A short drive inland, this beautiful garden is a peaceful refuge famous for its spring floral displays and native plants. Entertainment & Shopping Dee Why Town Centre: Head up to Pittwater Road for a major commercial hub with diverse dining options reflecting the area's multicultural community, large supermarkets, and other amenities. Dee Why RSL Club: A large local club offering restaurants, bars, live music, and entertainment options like Zone Bowling.
