What people say
The Hungry Spoon cafe is serving some of Sydney’s best coffee and food. Starting with the staff - They are friendly, (greeting customers by name) and the service is warm & efficient without being pushy. I have been here a few times and the baristas know my coffee order, the food servings are generous & both food and coffee are delicious. The space itself feels cosy but is large enough to not feel cramped when it’s busy. Having outside options is a bonus - large groups, children are dogs are welcome! Oatley is lucky to have a number of cafes to choose from - this is definitely one of the best and I will keep coming back.
A lovely spot outside of central Oatley, nestled on quiet surrounding streets. The food was good overall, and reasonably priced. The turkey bacon however was not for me, and had a strange taste of hot dogs, which was a problem because it was featured prevalantly across the menu, and so was hard to avoid. Everything else was very enjoyable though. Coffee was good, with an attempt at latte art, but nothing special. Staff were incredibly friendly, I can't overstate that, they made every encounter very enjoyable. Unfortunately, the food took a really long time to come out. Additionally they didn't bring the kids food out early as most places do, which inevitably leads to hungry kids and disgruntled adults. The place was busy, and the food was clearly freshly made, but at least bring the kids stuff out first. The restaurant itself is lovely. There is seating inside, outside, and under a cover round the back (though this was closed when we visited). It does get busy so I'd recommend booking. Highchairs and kids options were available, and parking is available along the street right outside.
Worst local dining experience I’ve ever had. The chicken was full of sinew and completely dry. When I flagged it back, I was met with a rude, passive-aggressive attitude from the manager/owner not even sure who this woman was. Judging by other negative reviews, this behaviour is nothing new here. Terrible food and even worse customer service. Never coming back. There are plenty of better places around and this one is best avoided.
"WOW, just WOW! This place is ABSOLUTE PERFECTION! From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for a treat. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was cozy, and the food... OH THE FOOD! It was love at first bite! I'm already counting down the days until I can come back and do it all again. If you're looking for a spot that will exceed your expectations, look no further! 5 STARS ISN'T ENOUGH!"
We visited Hungry Spoon in Oatley for a special Mother’s Day breakfast and had a fantastic experience. The café was beautifully styled for the occasion with a lovely, festive atmosphere. The food was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented — and the coffee was top notch. We even brought along our 1960 Dodge, which added a fun vintage touch and was a hit with the locals passing by. The staff were warm and welcoming, making the morning feel extra special. Highly recommend for great food, great service, and a great vibe!
