Belmore Park is genuinely one of the nicest parts of Goulburn and deserves a full 5 stars. The gardens are always well-maintained, with colourful flowers and clean pathways that make it really enjoyable to walk through. There’s plenty of shade from the big old trees, so it’s perfect for relaxing with friends, eating lunch, or just taking a break from the day. The playground is great for kids and the open grass areas make it easy to have a picnic or kick a ball around. The park feels safe, tidy, and peaceful, even though it’s right in the middle of town, which makes it super convenient to visit. Belmore Park also has a lot of character and history behind it, and you can feel that when you walk around. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, it’s honestly one of the best spots in Goulburn to chill out and enjoy the outdoors:)

HISTORY In 1869 the market square was renamed Belmore Square after the patronage of Lady Belmore, Belmore square then rededicated as Belmore Botanical Gardens on 13 September 1899 and now known as Belmore park. Belmore park has been the market square from 1833. In the early days the site had many types of merchandise exchange there including pigs 🐖, sheep 🐑, stock and garden produce. It was the location of many sporting events including foot races, wheelbarrow races, and games such as eating apples 🍎 on a string or catching the "greasy pig 🐖 ". Historically the most important of the huge exotic trees 🌳, the English Oak was planted by Lady Belmore to commemorate the opening of the railway 🛤, on 27 May 1869. The council fenced the square with a white picket fence in 1871. Over the years many Civic monuments were erected, The Temperance fountain ⛲️ with the carved lions 🦁 heads was donated in 1886, the fence and gate with sandstone pillars were erected in 1902 to mark the Coronation of King Edward Vll, the Band Rotunda was built in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's 👸, Jubilee, the Hollis memorial fountain ⛲️ was built in 1899 in memory of Dr L J Hollis, the Boer war memorial adorned by a carved marble soldier was erected in 1904, the large granite column memorial behind the band Rotunda was erected in 1910 in memory of Mayor J Knowlman. Wallabies, kangaroo's, Emus and Peacocks 🦚 roamed the large aviary until it was removed in 1926.The Centenary of Local Government in June 1959 was commemorate by three memorials the most prominent was the Glasshouse. Belmore park remains a Crown 👑 reserve dedicated for the purpose of Botanical Gardens with the council as trustee. The park was listed on the Register of the National Estate on 21 October 1980 It is said to be "an exceptional example of a late 19th Century town park ", incorporating extensive lawns, planting beds, mature 🌳, sculptures, memorials, and fountains ⛲️.

Stopped by Belmore Park while visiting the court nearby. It’s a beautiful, historic park with well-maintained gardens, vibrant flower beds, and a stunning old tree that adds to its charm. The park also has a lovely water fountain and a great playground for kids. A peaceful spot to relax and take in a bit of Goulburn’s history!

This photograph captures a beautiful, tranquil park setting, likely centered around a War Memorial. The statue, standing atop a dignified pedestal, is the clear focal point, surrounded by well-manicured garden beds and a low fence. The scene is dominated by the vibrant, lush green foliage of the large, mature trees that frame the memorial, providing a striking contrast to the bright blue sky dotted with soft white clouds. The intense colors suggest a clear, sunny day, making the stone of the memorial stand out beautifully. In the foreground, there are neat rows of freshly planted flowers, signifying care and respect for the grounds. Overall, the place exudes a sense of peace, history, and civic pride. It's a lovely spot for quiet contemplation and appreciation of the local heritage. Would you like me to focus on a particular element of the photo, like the memorial's design or the surrounding greenery, in a different style of description?
