Fairy Meadow Beach is a relaxed Illawarra beach with calm water, grassed surrounds and a green zone where dogs are allowed off-leash at any time. Dogs can run off-leash in the green zone, so it is worth checking the signage for the exact area. There is shade, toilets and parking on hand. A friendly beach with an off-leash green zone.

Dog rules

Off-leash is permitted in the designated green-zone section of this beach only; dogs must stay on-leash elsewhere. Check the signs at the beach for the off-leash zone boundary.

Fairy Meadow Beach is a charming and relaxed coastal destination just a short drive or bus ride from Wollongong’s city center. Nestled along the gentle curves of the Pacific shore, this family-friendly beach offers golden sands, calm surf, and plenty of space to unwind. The shallow, sheltered waters make it ideal for swimming, paddleboarding, or simply wading in on a warm day. Lifeguards patrol certain areas during peak seasons, giving peace of mind to families with young children. There’s usually plenty of parking nearby, as well as clean public toilets and shaded areas—perfect for packing a picnic or setting up a beach umbrella. Walking paths wind along the dunes and beachfront, connecting to nearby parks and cafes, making it a great spot for a peaceful shoreline stroll. The dunes and coastal grasslands beyond the sand are home to native vegetation and birdlife, offering a little natural oasis just steps from the water. While not as busy as some of the bigger Wollongong beaches, Fairy Meadow Beach has enough amenities—including coffee shops, casual dining options, and takeaway stores—to support a relaxing day by the sea. The vibe is quietly attractive: understated and peaceful, with just enough activity to feel lively without being crowded. Whether you’re after a gentle swim, family day out, or a serene spot to read a book overlooking the waves, Fairy Meadow Beach delivers a delightful coastal escape close to the city.

A beautiful beach with a great view. Perfect place to sit, relax and watch the world pass you by while soaking up a little sunshine. The beach is under the watchful eye of the surf life patrol.

The best sun rises, dolphins on the waves and the occasional windstorm and blue bottles. It's at once amazing and also frustrating.
