Been away for some years and craved for calamari. Was at Bondi over the weekend and I thot: can’t go wrong. Boy was I wrong. The chips were thin and overly browned and worst of all was the panko covered calamari that tasted more like fish paste. So am so VERY happy to taste the good ol calamari I’ve been dreaming of here at Bistro on the Lawn. Beautifully fried to a crisp yet not oily to the taste, the aioli sauce was spot on, not tartare sauce thank you. The salad of rocket with balsamic syrup went well to cut the richness of the entree. The main course of prawn & garlic pasta was just beautiful, with the right ratio of garlic, salt and olive oil, a real delight. The portion was on the generous side too. The medium rare Angus rump was so juicy, with just the right amount of searing on the outside, so when you chew each mouthful you get the wonderful aroma and taste of charred meat, mixing with that mouthwatering natural juice from the steak. Just as well the meat was so good on its own as the pepper sauce was a let down. Tasted more like medicinal menthol & pepper gravy, it just didn’t grow on me. Must go again to try the rest of the menu. The staff were lovely, their little helpers were quite cute too. Street parking around the perimeter of the club along Jarrett and Alfred St.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We recently celebrated my son’s 21st birthday at South Campsie Bowling Club at the new 'Bisro on the Lawn', and I can’t speak highly enough of the experience. The service and food were absolutely impeccable — every dish was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. A special mention to Thanassi, our waiter, who looked after our table with such care and attention to detail. His professionalism, warmth, and genuine hospitality made the night truly unforgettable. He ensured everything ran smoothly and went above and beyond our expectations. Thank you to the entire team at South Campsie Bowling Club for helping make this milestone celebration so special. We couldn’t have asked for a better venue or service — highly recommended!
What a great local bistro with a catchy name Bistro on the Lawns…the food was really good and very affordable for families, plenty of space outside to eat and let the children play. They have wheelchair access at the back, you pay for your food and take a buzz and you buy your drinks from the bar. The meals are generous in size, the menu has all the classic pub favorites which is great for families. There was a function inside which looked lovely so if you need a venue to have a celebration I’d recommend this place. I’ll definitely be coming back again with the family especially for the Calamari! Wishing Helen the owner of the bistro all the best to her and her family!
Recently moved into the area and wanted to check out the local Bowlo and I'm so glad I did! The staff (especially Jade) on a Thursday night went above and beyond for us, giving us all the information we needed, answering any questions and turning on the heaters without hesitation when we said we wanted to sit outside. Service was quick and the food was also great for the price. Highly recommend coming here! Thank you Jade, you're the best :)
Classic old fashioned bowlo and it was great to see players out on the green. Bar was nicely setup, friendly staff, drink prices on par with other venues. Came to eat lunch at La Cucina Bistro, had previously seen a very reasonably priced lunch menu on their website (a few months ago) but this has since been discontinued. Standard menu is very expensive. $34 for a chicken parmy for visitors? $52 for a scotch fillet steak? This is a bowlo with bowlo style ambience and long laminate tables, not a fine dining establishment. Ended up sharing a supreme pizza ($29) as it seemed the best value. Pizza was fine, wasnt wood fired but wasnt advertised as such. Nice housemade tomato sauce and generous with the meat and sliced ham. Could have had more cheese on toppings.
