Hippo Espresso

A nice place. Doggo friendly outside and great food.

Mainly staffed by school kids. Friendly but untrained. We ordered two meals and both were ordinary. Kitchen omitted to put any bacon at all on my BLT sandwich and initially this was treated well but felt I was the problem when I asked what happened to the shared chips on my plate that I had taken back. A small bowl was slammed down on the table without comment. A disappointing experience.

We love this place. Food is always exceptional and well priced. Best breakfast in Newcastle. Staff are friendly and helpful. Venue is clean and tidy. Would absolutely recommend.

Come here usually multiple times per week and always a positive experience. Staff are lovely, food/coffee is always delicious and the service is always SO fast. Shout out to the Hippo Hot Chocolate - the flavoured ones like ferrero and bounty are to die for.

Won’t go there again. Told we could sit anywhere so we sat at the windows looking out but was then asked to move because that’s where they serve the street customers (it was bucketing rain and had zero street customers). We moved to a different spot and then had zero service. Ended up ordering via the QR code but items all came out randomly (not together). Tried the ‘cronuts’ which were nice but the coffee was poorly. At the end of the day, the welcome was poor and the lack of service made me write this review.
