Strickland Arboretum is a dog-friendly on-leash walking trail through a landscaped, shaded setting. The trail is short but pleasant, with water crossings that can get muddy. There's drinking water available, and the tree coverage keeps it cool even on warm days. It's a quiet, low-key spot that works well for a calm on-leash walk rather than an energetic outing.

Dog rules

–Central Coast Council's "Guide to being PAWSOME!" booklet states: "When exercising in a public place, keep your dog on a lead and under the control of a competent person." "This means when you are outside your home, including on the footpath, your dog must be on a lead — except in designated dog off-leash exercise areas." The booklet also notes that under the Companion Animals Act 1998, dogs are prohibited from schools, shopping centres, beaches (except in designated areas), food preparation areas, playgrounds and wildlife protection areas. This park is not on Central Coast Council's published off-leash list, so the council's general on-leash rule applies. (Source: Central Coast Council — "Guide to being PAWSOME!" Responsible Pet Ownership booklet, centralcoast.nsw.gov.au.)

Walked the Arboretum trail in search of birds. It's really pretty and was shady and cool on a hot day, but not many birds in view, perhaps because there were lots of loud dog owners with dogs off lead (allowed here). So a nice place for families and pets but not great birding (i started at 9.00 and likely quieter earlier than than that). But also lots of mozzie, so wear repellent!

Beautiful and quiet walk, surrounded by an abundance of trees and wildlife. You will cross a few small streams of water, and the ground does remain soggy most of the year, so don't wear your good shoes. Dogs allowed on leash. It's a easy walk, but thoroughly enjoyable.

If you walk ahead another 10 min, there’s a gorgeous sparkling lake on the right hand side (blue part on the map) it’s a massive grassy field you walk through before you can see it.
