Smail Reserve is a dog-friendly park in Birrong.
Dogs are welcome on-leash at Smail Reserve, a Canterbury-Bankstown Council park. Under the NSW Companion Animals Act 1998, dogs must be kept on a lead and under the effective control of a competent person, and are prohibited within 10 metres of children's play equipment and food preparation areas. Off-leash exercise is permitted only in Council's designated off-leash areas.
I walked 🚶♀️ around here a couple of days ago. The interesting part was the sculpture and the writing on the cement in front of the sculpture. There was a bbq area with a picnic table, benches, and a creek as well.
Cool place, some design going on, feels unfinished though, and no people on a Sunday arvo; no playground, but a nice forested portion. No shade on the east side.
Great Reserve, gave it a 4 out of 5 for the following; Facilities; has a table and seating scattered around the reserve as well as bins. There is also a BBQ (coin operated $1.00), and the seating has a shelter over it. Cleanliness; The locals that use this park care for the rubbish which is littered mainly from students smoking and drinking V, and in the weekend, people using the area (rarely happens) but when it does, they usually leave their alcohol bottles and litter and trash in the area (don't clean up after themselves). Other than hoodlums that visit the park, it is generally well looked after by the council and the locals (mostly the locals as the council comes once a month). Lighting; given that a lot of locals are walking through the park to get to the bus station on Brunker Rd, this park has in-adequate lighting and there are no water facilities nor is there any toilets like other parks (for example Canada bay council has a similar park and there is plenty of lighting there as well as toilets - Canterbury, Bankstown Council need to invest more in parks like this, so that all locals can use the space freely. XFactor; small, cosy and nice park with lots of trees and greenery.
Smail Reserve is magical, the energy there is uncomparable. The birds singing, wind blowing, stream flowing...beautiful walking paths and steps...perfect for some outdoor cardio🏃♀️
