A beautiful spot to spend the weekend or an extended stay. The campsites are generously sized, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The only downside is there needs to be more amenities. There are not enough showers or toilets given the number of camp sites and people during peak season. Apart from that, it’s an absolutely fantastic spot, and we will definitely return.

I can only rate the service at this place 0 stars. My husband wanted to show me the location on Tuesday, November 11th, as we had been discussing organizing a camping trip with friends here. My husband parked the car in a parking spot outside the kiosk, right next to the boom gate. I was in urgent need of a restroom, so I quickly got out of the car and walked to the toilet block near the river. When I came out, my husband told me that a staff member had been extremely rude to him. The man aggressively told my husband that he had to pay the $7 entry fee just to park there or even to drive around and take a quick look. I understand that the day entry fee is $7. However, we had only stopped for a momentary look around, and he treated my husband as if he was deliberately trying to cheat the system. You may be happy to have collected that $7, but you have lost a potential customer. I will not be recommending this place to any of my friends. This experience has left us feeling that Lake Lyell is a bad place to visit when we are in the Blue Mountains. We will never return here.

Spent a night here in our caravan parked right on the lakeside. Staff were very friendly and welcoming right from when I phoned to book until we left. Offered us a nicer spot when someone cancelled. Great value for money.Would have stayed longer if some bad weather hadn't rolled in.

Gorgeous place!! We went with a large group and the staff were so accommodating of us. The only issue we had was with the bathrooms of which there is only two male and two female. During the duration of our stay one of the showers stopped working but this was fixed within a few days. Will definitely still return

Review: Lake Lyell Recreation Area - Majestic Views and Exceptional Service Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5 Stars) My partner and I recently spent a restful week at the Lake Lyell Recreation Area, and it was a genuinely fantastic escape. This is a place that offers a true, authentic camping experience, set right in a naturally beautiful environment. The service was also outstanding. The Majestic View (A Must-See!) We stayed at a powered site, and the view over Lake Lyell and the surrounding mountains was nothing short of majestic. Waking up to the scenery and enjoying the changing light throughout the day was a huge part of the experience. If you can secure a spot overlooking the water, I highly recommend it—it makes the entire trip worthwhile. Perfect Mid-Week Getaway The second major takeaway is the absolute peace and quiet we enjoyed during our Monday-to-Friday stay. If you are a camper seeking genuine solitude, minimal crowds, and a tranquil escape, we strongly suggest planning your visit for the week. The atmosphere was incredibly relaxing, and it truly felt like we had this stunning environment almost entirely to ourselves. Friendly and Helpful Staff A special mention must go to the staff. They were incredibly helpful and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble for them. Excellent customer service makes the stay smooth and pleasant. Overall Recommendation We wholeheartedly recommend Lake Lyell. Between the spectacular views, the tranquility of a mid-week visit, the authentic camping feel, and the outstanding staff, this campground is ideal for unwinding and escaping the daily grind.
