HJ Mahoney Memorial Park
HJ Mahoney Memorial Park sits alongside the Cooks River with mature trees providing serious shade coverage. The off-leash area covers the sports ground when it's not being used for organised training or matches — at those times, dogs need to be on-leash. The park has been upgraded in recent years and the grounds are well-kept. BBQs, toilets, and shaded areas make it suitable for longer stays.
Dog rules
Dogs are off-leash on the HJ Mahoney sports ground at all times except when it is in use for organised sports training or matches, when dogs must be on a leash. Follow on-site signage.

What people say
Lovely little area, great for picnics, with trees circling the play field. It's is a pity I only saw one BBQ area. Off-leash area for all your friendly doggos. I went with a few friends for my first catch up since lockdown lifted to do some shibari (Japanese performance art). Perfect weather: lovely breeze on the day, not hot, not cold. Another date has already been set and I'm looking forward to it!
Beautiful park at Marrickvile, by the Cook's River. Attached to a field for Rugby and AFL, it has been redesigned and upgraded by Marrickville council. It had a wall that was used for practising tennis and was a legal wall for our amazing graffiti artists. It now boasts, not one, but three new walls where it's legal to do and show off your art! It also has new BBQ facilities under shade and a skate park. Living the new facilities, especially the walls. There should be more walls for our street artists! Enjoy and respect this park, where it is also now a park where you can take your dog off leash, during certain hours, as long as there are no Sports on.
There is lots of trees and a nice big field for kicking the ball around. There is lots of unleashed dogs running around too hence may not be suitable for young kids that is afraid of big dogs.
I appreciate the well-kept grounds and the mature trees that provide shade. It's a pleasant park for a stroll, and I often see people walking their dogs or enjoying the sunshine. The park is very clean."
Home of the Newtown Breakaways. Good little cafe. Great club and family friendly atmosphere. Grass roots footy at its best.
