Petersham Park is a historic green space in the inner west, with large grassy lawns, mature trees and plenty of room for a walk. The southern section is off-leash all day, with an additional designated area off-leash from 6–9am and 4–6pm (5–8pm during daylight saving). It is a popular, friendly spot for dog walkers, with toilets, shade, BBQs and a playground on hand. A spacious park that suits both an off-leash run and an easy stroll.
The southern area of Petersham Park (adjacent to Wentworth and Brighton Streets) is off-leash at any time of the day. An additional designated area is off-leash 6am–9am and 4pm–6pm (5pm–8pm during daylight saving). Dogs must be on a leash around the vintage bandstand and children's playground.
I have been here before my second time with my friend on a weekday seeing a big cricket field being played on the weekends including baseball for winter months though it can be very peaceful to relieve all the stress from work to run or jog for a good exercise. Picnic area can be very good for older families to enjoy the sunshine outdoors. Good for kids to play inside the playground area for them to have fun which has toilets BBQ area some local cafes as well for a well known suburb. Parking isn’t a hassle at times since it’s a great place to do sporty activities with friends or by yourself so good to have a water station to drink water out of it. Dog friendly area with owners to walk with the leash attached to it. Overall good to go outdoors more frequently to move your body around when you have time in between cafes & a aquatic centre to see some seats as well
Petersham Park is a lovely, historic green space in Sydney’s Inner West with plenty to offer for families, dog walkers, and anyone wanting some fresh air. The large grassy lawns, mature trees and shaded picnic spots make it a relaxing place to spend a few hours. The playground is well-sized and suitable for kids of various ages, and nearby BBQ facilities and seating areas are handy for casual outings. The adjacent cricket oval and aquatic centre add extra recreational options, and there are local cafes just a short walk away for coffee or snacks. On the downside, parking can be limited on busy weekends, and some areas around the park get crowded. Additionally, dog off-leash areas are not fenced, so you need to be cautious if your dog isn’t well-trained. Overall, it’s a great community park with plenty to enjoy — perfect for picnics, play, and outdoor time — earning a solid 4 stars for its relaxed atmosphere and versatile facilities.
We went to a birthday party at Petersham Park and had a lovely time! There’s a large open grassy area and a well-sized playground — perfect for kids to run around. The park also has benches, BBQ facilities, a nearby café and toilets, which was super convenient. Parking wasn’t too difficult, and there’s also a water station available. Great spot for gatherings with kids!
Great park for kids, has an area suitable for toddlers & young children & a decent climbing frame for older kids. Loads of space to run around & open enough that you can see the children without having to follow them around. Also located next to the swimming pool & newly opened Splash cafe, so great for coffee & treats!
Beautiful park for a walk. Upon entering the gate on Brighton St I was greeted in a friendly manner by an older gentleman walking his adorable dog. Heaps of people with their pets can be found here. The plaque on the entrance tells me it opened in 1887, so I felt the historic vibe. Tall well manicured trees greeted me with their shade in a uniform row along both sides of the footpath. Another plaque informs you this is where THE Donald Bradman scored his first century in cricket across the way in the well maintained sports oval. There’s also the aquatic centre where people were coming for early morning laps in the pool. It’s named after Fanny Durack, Sydney’s first Olympic Gold Medalist in swimming. Across from that is a playground for the kids. All along the perimeter of the park are gorgeous old trees with opulent trunks - very picturesque. A lovely inner city park for walking and recreation!
