dined here with some girlfriends on a Friday night and was really excited but was promptly let down. the food is such a miss. we ordered the oysters and the kingfish ceviche. the seafood was very fishy, meaning it was likely not fresh. beef tartare was okay, but not good enough to order again. also ordered burrata, fries, and olives, which thankfully cannot be messed up. we also ordered a steak which took half an hour to arrive, and was cold when it got to us, meaning it clearly was sitting out for a while and forgotten about. staff were initially attentive but then we realised we had been completely forgotten when we waited 20 minutes to get the drinks menu. then the bill came and I was a little thrown. it was VERY pricey for what it was. we spent $350ish for 3 people. sadly, I got sick, likely from the seafood, shortly after.
Lauren really looked after us tonight. Your staff is very professional and world class. We really enjoyed our pre Christmas dinner with the family. Food was so amazing. Good value and an asset to Balmain
We actually went for Casa Esquina but it turns out, they just did a name change - but the sign was still on the wall and on the knives. Elliott’s - Disappointing is an understatement. The venue is nice and so are the staff - the food is SO EXPENSIVE and quality was sub-par. Chicken was tough, dry and chewy on some pieces and then juicy on others. Steak frites was almost $60 and over cooked from the requested med-rare, making it dryer than it should have been. The most shocking was the steak tartare. It came out on a crispy rosti and deep fried shallot on top - but the meat was brown!! I asked if it was supposed to be beef? Yes.. is it meant to be cooked? No Why is it brown? Chef says it’s the condiments.. Absolutely not… I know tartare… I eat them often and rate them. Raw meat should not be brown & you should reconsider your condiments if that’s the outcome. They replace it with a teaspoon or 2 of fresher/pink mince.. still majority brown. NO THANKS!! Even with condiments, the flesh of the meat should still be pink and visible. This was old meat. See the photos.. just shades of brown. Thanks to the manager for removing the tartare and drinks… leaving us with a $110 bill for 2 mediocre mains. The prices are too high for the burbs & too big for the food quality. If we had paid for everything, it would have been about $160 for 1 starter, 2 mains, a soft drink and an Aperol spritz…. $$$ Cocktail was good. Wine list is a bit of a miss. Only 1 Aussie rosé sold by the glass - coming into summer, you might need to review your options.
Given the high standards of Casa Esquina, we expected more. Vibes are definitely on point and great service throughout the night however, food is pretty basic and missing the wow factor. And the cocktails aren’t as good as the previous menu. Not sure why this venue had to change. We loved how it was before.
What an incredible experience we had tonight at Elliott’s! The staff were knowledgeable and attentive. Great music with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The food was fantastic and beautifully presented. Just WOW!! I’d give 6 stars 🌟 if I could. Can’t wait to go back!
