The Golden Sheaf

Dogs welcome — rules apply•Dog rules

The Golden Sheaf in Double Bay is an iconic local with a heated, partly covered beer garden where dogs are welcome. The pub goes beyond the basics with a chef-crafted dog menu and regular dog events. The food is consistently well-regarded, and the beer garden has enough space to settle in with your dog for the afternoon. Steyne Park is just 100 metres away if your dog needs a stretch.

Dog rules

Dogs are welcome in the beer garden until 9:30pm.

Please keep dogs leashed, calm, and under control for the comfort of all patrons.

Was too busy to eat or drink there, but not too busy to visit! Last time I was here, There was a couple in America saying “ We can still call her Taylor, even though she’s a girl” (FYI Taylor Swift 1989) Really love the atmosphere. The pub was well maintained. Staff were friendly. Loved having the tree in the beer garden. Reminded me of the oaks neutral Bay. There is also a back entrance, which is handy. Parking out the back. Enjoyed reading the sporting photos and photos famous people who have visited the pub. Also an area for live music. I like the way the poker machines were “encapsulated” within the Hotel. Have already booked a table for the 2nd of November 2029. I can celebrate 50 years of the east suburbs railway, my wife’s birthday and most importantly being able to catch a train to Woollahra station and walking to the pub. No doubt will visit for a meal and beer before then.

I have been a customer of this iconic pub for 25 years. I no longer live in Sydney but returned for an old friends birthday over the weekend. What should have been a very special evening with friends from all over the country and the world was ruined by the most appalling security operation I’ve ever seen in my life. Prime security I believe they are called. Intimidating, rude and aggressive. I even saw two of them helping themselves to the foods our host had provided for the guests of the event and take pictures of each other eating it. Literally all the bar staff are In Substandard . I was driving so drank water all evening, I asked for a slice of lime in my glass. No tongs were used on any occasion, he simply used his hands to put it in my glass? Really? Having a responsible service of alcohol certificate, doesn’t make one a good bartender. Overall it was incredibly disappointing. My daughters attended and they felt so uncomfortable at the event. This pub has been a favourite of ours for years. Please do better and I strongly encourage management to review the security firm and perhaps try a little harder with the recruitment of bar staff.

What’s not to love about our local sheaf. The food is consistently good for pub food, good variety on the menu, and you can’t beat a good Sunday session with live music. Great pub to relax at and never disappoints.

Just wanted to say big thank you to all the staff for helping me to organise my 40th birthday party last Saturday. I’ve rented the private section upstairs called The Canopy for 50ish people. Everyone was super helpful, well organised, and very professional from the coordinator to staff members on the day. You made my special day great 😊

Finished work early and went for lunch. You can see it’s a nice place to be just my timing was off for hanging out. Had a chicken parmigiana. The chicken was cooked nicely and the tomato base store bought but used wisely. The cheese was a good choice nice mozzarella with a sprinkle of cheddar on top which made you interested in the dish. Great move. The chips were thick cut so they held their heat ( plate wasn’t pre warmed) but nice. The salad was a bit plain. I had no seasoning/ dressing on my salad but others had just a little olive oil. 4 out of five plates cleaned.
