It was a lovely night to check the burger out. The best? Not necessarily. (Tried the Gidley’s a few days later and definitely preferred Margaret’s.) But it made me think of coming back as it’s definitely a really fresh good cheese burger in my area. Also liked the dessert. Thank you. Would love to try Margaret sometime.
Café Margaret is a delightful little café with a warm, relaxed vibe and consistently good food. Ranked top burger is Sydney, but for the steak, I'd definitely go to the Margaret restaurant next door. Service was friendly and attentive, though things can feel a touch hectic at peak times. Still, it’s a lovely spot for a relaxed breakfast or a mid-morning coffee
This one is hard to rate as there was so much variance in the dishes. We went to try what was voted as Australia’s best burger and for sure the burger was really good! Is it Australia’s best? That a matter of preference with places like Gilda’s and Clam Bar also have really really good burgers. But it has to be said, the burger was tasty and a solid choice. But that’s about it. My sister has the crab Signapore noodles and it was a bland dish. There wasn’t any noticeable spices or flavours to it, it literally tasted like plain noodles with crab. The chips were way over salted and also not sure if they are made in-house, they looked and tasted like a frozen bag of chips cooked in the fryer. The anchovy toast held promise but again, the flavours were underwhelming. The setting is very much a cafe vibe but the prices in the menu are more in line for a restaurant. Overall not really worth it unless going specifically for the burger.
We arrived for lunch, but our table wasn’t ready even though there were several available. The manager asked us to wait outside, and while we stood there, a couple who arrived after us were seated immediately — at a larger table, despite being just two people as well. We ordered cocktails and food at the same time. The cocktails were absolutely delicious, but unfortunately, that was the highlight of the meal. I specifically asked for my burger to be cooked medium rare and was told that’s how they usually prepare it. Sadly, it arrived completely overcooked. Throughout lunch, no one checked on us to ask how our food was — the only question we got was whether they could clear our plates. When I mentioned that my burger was overcooked, the waiter simply said he was sorry and that he’d pass the message to the chef. That was it. No real effort to make things right. The food itself was fine, but seriously overpriced for what you get. We came from far away to try a burger that’s been listed among the best in the world, only to receive average service and an overcooked meal. I wouldn’t dine here again.
We spent a weekend in Sydney for a special occasion, and visited each of the Holy Trinity that is the three restaurants of legendary chef Neil Perry’s Double Bay enclave of fine dining and wonderful food. First up, many thanks…we loved it! Chef is a firm favourite and we have never been disappointed or come away with anything but an elevated opinion of all aspects of the experience: freshest and best produce, obvious great talents, exceptional service and a lovely location all combined to make dining special. The photos show our choices and we also had the delicious Mirabelle Tart too. Great way to round off an excellent meal. If you cannot get a table at Margaret, try Next Door. Exceptional food…great dining.
