Eve Street Wetlands is a dog-friendly park in Arncliffe.
Good birding spot. Saw royal spoonbills, great egret, pied stilts, red whiskered bulbuls and many others. Too bad the entrance to walkway is still locked, don’t know why. Walking along the bike trails will give you a few spots to look over the marsh.
This park sits atop the M5 tunnel, a hidden gem likely known only to locals and cyclists.
The bikeway and cement footpath from East Devonport to Latrobe , alongside the Mersey River, is a world-class walk. The bird life was everywhere and an echidna even got in the way . It was hard to spot a single piece of rubbish for me to pick up..
It’s locked by the council for some reason
A small saltmarsh that is irrigated by the Cooks River. Despite the horrendously polluted river, the saltmarsh does support transient populations of many wading and other smaller water reliant birds. I have never seen another human there, which is refreshing (excluding the adjacent cycleway). My only gripe with the place is the somewhat irrationally placed "Air Traffic Monitoring" building, which is occasionally 75% surrounded by salty water. This building could be turned into a bird watchers hide to reduce human impact. You may expect to see, depending on the time of year: - Pied Stilt - Chestnut Teal, Grey Teal - Australian White Ibis - Latham's Snipe - Reed Warbler - Red-necked Avocet - Various Dotterels and Sandpipers
