The Plane Spotting Beach is a beach in Arncliffe where dog access has not yet been confirmed — it's worth checking before you visit.
I recently visited and it exceeded my expectations. The location is perfect for watching planes land and take off at very close range. You can clearly see aircraft from major airlines like Qantas and Emirates, and the experience feels almost surreal when a huge plane flies just above your head. The sound, the scale, and the speed make it unforgettable. The viewing area itself is well set up. There’s a raised mound that gives you a clear, unobstructed view of the runway, plus seating areas and space to relax. It’s clean, family-friendly, and you’ll often see aviation enthusiasts with cameras as well as casual visitors just enjoying the moment. There’s also a live air traffic control broadcast playing, which adds a really cool, immersive touch. One of the best things about this place is how accessible it is. It’s not far from the city, and there’s parking available nearby. It’s also a great spot for a picnic, especially during sunset when the lighting makes the planes look even more impressive. The only downside is that it can get quite windy and noisy, which might not suit everyone. Also, shade is limited, so bringing sunscreen or a hat is a good idea. Overall, if you love planes, photography, or just want to experience something different in Sydney, this spot is definitely worth visiting. It’s a hidden gem that offers a perspective of the city you won’t get anywhere else. ⭐
Fantastic location beside Sydney airport air trafic control area to watch flights take off. We spotted quite a few international flights including qf1 a380. Its a short bus ride from Mascot. Easy to park if you are driving. Popular fishing spot as well.
Sydney’s plane spotting beach is a must visit for all aviation enthusiasts, and an exciting attraction that should not be missed.
This is definitely one of the best places in Sydney to view arrivals and departures from. If you’re into photography, it’s a great spot to get some really dramatic takeoff and landing shots, especially with planes flying low over the water. The runway is literally right next to the beach, so you don’t need a big zoom lens since the planes are already so close. The overall vibe here is really good as well. You’ve got the beach, the sound of the waves, and planes constantly flying overhead, which makes it a fun place to just hang out for a while. The beach is actually really clean despite what some reviews say, and there’s plenty of space to sit and watch everything. Definitely worth checking out.
Very cool, probably not a must and some people wouldn’t be into it.. but it’s something different to your average beach. I walked down from Brighton Le Sands beach which was beautiful and I was so surprised how white the sand was..! But the Plane Spotting Beach isn’t quite as nice as that. The sand is yellow and the water isn’t as nice, didn’t stop me getting in though cos it was 42 degrees! Meanwhile watching the planes coming in. I watched the sunset after and sat up where all these photographers were.. some with pretty fancy long lenses too!
