What people say
Depends on time of year the walk tracks near mount yacaaba can be underwater Very awesome walk and the last 800 metre climb is steep and can be challenging but definitely worth climbing
This is a great walking track with some beautiful views along the way. I walked with my children (6year olds) and it took us about 2 hours from the carpark to the summit and then back. It took a while to walk along the beach and then get our shoes back on, but the bush track was well signposted and we enjoyed the steady walk uphill. As other reviews suggest the last push is steep and rocky. It's great if you want to feel like you've had a proper workout and the sense of achievement at the top is well worth the hard slog. You won't be passing big crowds or waiting on the track. We passed a few other people but not many. And then it was great to stop in at Jimmy's beach for a swim afterwards.
There is no road past this point for the car. You will have to take the walking tracks or walk on the beach if you want to go further. The sand dunes are big so it's not very easy to go down the beach if you have mobility issues. The beach was quiet and beautiful waves with an amazing views.
The track entrance is easy to find at the end of the main Hawks Nest beach. From there, a well maintained and gradually sloping track leads up the first kilometre to a very nice view back to Hawks Nest. The last 500m after that is very steep and heavily eroded to the summit. Your reward is views south to the Nelson Bay coastline and lighthouse, as well as back over Hawks Nest and towards Broughton Island. Well worth it as long as your knees are ok up and down!
Such a great walk! If you don't want the hardish scramble up to the summit, just walking the lovely forested track about 3/4 of the way up is well worth it and still provides lovely views.
