The Scarborough Hotel

Dogs welcome

Updated 12 May 2026

Scarborough Hotel is known for its large, open beer garden overlooking the coastline, with wide views across the ocean. The grassed area gives dogs plenty of room to stretch out, with a mix of tables and umbrellas throughout.

It's a popular destination, especially on weekends and public holidays, and arriving earlier in the day helps secure a more comfortable spot. Parking can be limited during busy periods, often requiring a short walk to the venue.

If you’re looking for a spot to lose an entire afternoon, the Scarborough Hotel is it. It’s a great find with a fabulous ocean view that’s hard to beat—you’re literally perched on the cliffside watching the waves. The vibe is super relaxed, making it a great spot for afternoon drinks. The bistro food is generally what you’d expect at a pub like this, though I found the fish and chips a bit disappointing for $29 - it was just one thin fillet with mostly chips and salad. That said, the chicken schnitzel and fried onion rings were quite good. Stopover for the view, drinks and relaxed vibes. Parking is very limited - you may need to do a few loops back and forth to find a spot.

Visiting the area and came across this hotel in a perfect spot, the edge of the cliff overlooking the ocean. Perfect place to sit back relax and enjoy the music, and have a beer, wine or cocktail. The parking was limited. We ended up parking a fair distance away and walked it along the main road. The hotel was very spacious with seating inside, outside on a balcony and or down on the grassy area. The view from The balcony was lovely, with the occasional cockatoo sitting on the fence. This was perfect for our afternoon. The place was clean and spacious and it didnt feel like we were packed in. It had a relaxed vide. Staff were friendly. Toilets were ok. I didnt see a playground for children in the outdoor area. Would recommend this place to stop in at.

This is a classic Australian pub with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from a street level balcony or the beer garden below. Take the coast road from The Royal National Park to maximise your experience or board the South Coast train from Central to take in the scenic sights that Scarborough has to offer. Food is good and drinks are plenty with a bar outdoors as well. Highly recommended but try a weekday as weekends are crowded.

I was in two minds about posting as I got a full refund. But the food was so dreadful I think people need to know. We ordered the fish and chips, side salad and steak sandwich (labelled wagyu). The fish batter was so hard - never experienced anything like it - the fish inside was dessicated. The chips v average. The salad so confused. Covered in a weird dressing which I can only think was a mix of pomegranate and mayo. Tip to kitchen - keep it simple if you can't cook. The steak sandwich was equally awful - the meat grey and tasted a bit like liver. We had average expectations going in - as food on this part of the coast is generally a let down - but this was next level awful. I ate two mouthfuls - my partner the same - and we got a full refund. They seemed genuinely sorry but that's not good enough. This is a beautiful pub and deserves better - and also needs a clean up too. Wine list is ok so maybe just pop in for a drink as the view is lovely of course. The photo shows the food we left!

Amazing view and food, the perfect place to pull over when travelling in the area but also is a terrific place if you can spend an afternoon. I know we did not want to leave. The kids loved the freedom and the non-alcoholic cocktails were a treat on a hot day. What i also really enjoyed is the music. Such a great atmosphere for an outside area. Definitely a place to visit again and again.
