Bidjigal Reserve's Platypus Track is a pretty bush trail in Castle Hill, a green escape close to the suburbs. Dogs are welcome on-leash, kept clear of playgrounds and sports fields, and the clean, shaded path makes for a relaxing walk. It is a lovely spot to get a bit of nature without going far. A calm on-leash bushwalk for a dog that enjoys a trail.
Under the Companion Animals Act 1998, dogs must be on-leash at all times in all parks and public places. Dogs are prohibited within 10 metres of children's playground equipment and food preparation areas, from active sports fields during organised sport, public bathing areas, school grounds, and child care centres. Dog faeces must be removed immediately. (Source: The Hills Shire Council — Stay out of the Doghouse, thehills.nsw.gov.au.)
A great trail to relax a bit within the city. I found the place very beautiful and clean. I loved that dogs are allowed. I’ll definitely bring my dog to explore it soon. 💗
A perfect way to wrap up the year. On the last day of the year, my son and I chose the Bidjigal Reserve walk and it turned out to be one of the best walks we’ve done recently. We started on the Platypus Track and then continued onto the Burraga Track (around 5 km). The walk is immersed in nature, with birds chirping throughout, well-marked trails, and no risk of losing your way. It’s an easy to moderate walk; walking poles are handy in parts. Being mostly shaded and within the reserve, it’s suitable even in peak summer, though it’s best to avoid during flood warnings. Highly recommended for a peaceful, refreshing bush walk close to Sydney.
Amazing trails, surprisingly serene, forest enveloping hush - despite it being in the middle of a suburban area, trails are relatively easy, there are occasional challenges but overall it's suitable for most people, even those with minor arthritis. Watch out for bull ants, plenty of nests along the way, so try not to step on one of those.
Was a beautiful walk, took me and my family an hour and 40 mintues, (did have 3 kids ages 6,4 and 2) to do the loop with few stops along the way to take in nature
Lovely trail!! I would recommend starting on the left side of the trail to get more incline action
