Dog rules
Inner West Council's "Dog exercise areas" page states: "By law, dogs must be on a leash in public places unless the area is a designated off-leash area." Inner West Council publishes a list of gazetted off-leash areas; this venue is not on that list, so the council's general on-leash rule applies under the NSW Companion Animals Act 1998. Also called the Bay to Bay Shared Pathway, this is located in the Inner Western Suburbs of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia 🇦🇺. We had a lovely walk along the Cooks River Trail. We crossed the river over the Crossing where we had come from lunch at the Marrickville Golf ⛳️ Club and wanted to go for a walk before heading home. The trail itself is a loop of 22.9 kilometres (which we only did a tiny section of) but we are are a small social group of people including people with disabilities, including people in wheelchairs 🦽 so we took it a bit easier. The trail itself is very wheelchair accessible (the section we were in anyway) which is always something we consider so it was perfect for us. There are numerous seats along the pathway for people to have a rest. It’s a dog friendly path as I saw several people walking their dog 🐶 (which must be on a leash) and people on their bikes 🚲 also. This is a very popular trail for bird 🦅 watchers, hikers and cyclists 🚴♀️. It’s a multi use path, mainly for cycling and walking that follows the Cooks River from Tempe to Strathfield. It’s a great path to see a great range of flora and fauna, mangroves, water birds and also aquatic animals living in the river. We saw a children’s playground and BBQ facilities in the tiny section we were on which was wonderful to see. The only thing is we didn’t see any toilet facilities but as I mentioned earlier, we were only on a tiny section so that doesn’t mean there isn’t any, just saying we didn’t see any. I would definitely recommend this trail for cyclists and walkers alike. The views of the river are amazing and it’s an easy path to follow. 👍👍👍
Absolutely obsessed with this cycleway — smooth, wide, and genuinely safe, which matters so much when you’re riding with kids in tow. It’s family-friendly without feeling hectic, with clear signage, pretty views, and plenty of spots to pause for a snack break (essential 😅). An easy Sydney win — I finished feeling energised, not stressed 🚲💖
