Brunswick Heads Main Beach has off-leash access 24/7, with the breakwall providing partial shelter from the open ocean. It's better suited to confident swimmers than first-timers — the surf can pick up. The dedicated dog exercise area extends 400 metres south of the surf club. Parking is metered.

Dog rules

Off-leash is permitted in the designated section only — from 20 metres south of the surf club to 400 metres south, toward Tyagarah Nature Reserve — before 9am and after 4pm. Dogs must be on-leash at other times and in other areas of the beach. Stay clear of patrolled swimming areas.

Paid $7.50 (!) for 1.5 hours parking this morning (all parking metered) anticipating a nice long walk on the beach with our small dog. Had looked along the beach the day before and saw an endless expanse of beach but only walked 200m today before encountering a sign saying “no dogs past this point”. Whole experience disappointing. Won’t return. Lovely beach but parking beyond our budget and not worth it for such a short walk.

Really nice beach and a great off leash area for your dogs to exercise with.

Nice local beach. Not much shopping although there were quite a few resale shops if you're interested in those type of things. Not many touristy shops

Great vibes, nice short walk (>8mins) over the Brunswick River bridge across to the main beach. Cute 'hidden' van Cafe along the way. Lovely people around. This beach has a good strong surf/current when the weather is right for it (life guards were on the ball). Nice and calm in the evening and not overcrowded the two times I went. :)
