The Fern & Anchor is a cafe in Lake Illawarra with an outdoor area. Dog access isn't confirmed, but venues with an outdoor area are often dog friendly, so it may be worth checking. Just 400m away, Reddall Reserve East is a great nearby park for a walk with your dog.

Illawarra, listen up: if you’ve been sipping mediocre coffee and pretending it’s “fine,” it’s time for an upgrade. Get yourself to this café immediately. I’ve done the hard yards (aka drank enough coffee to power a small village), and nothing comes close to this place. The Eggs Benny? Don’t talk to me while I’m eating it—I need a moment of silence. Their specials board? Actually special, not the usual “we ran out of avocado” situation. And the banana pancakes… I’m eating them right now and honestly reconsidering my relationship status because these pancakes treat me better than most people. Lynsey runs the front like the absolute legend she is, and Marshall is in the kitchen crafting edible masterpieces that should probably be illegal it’s all so addictive. It’s family friendly, dog friendly, and—apparently—goat friendly. Yes, an actual goat had brunch here. Yes, it behaved better than half the customers. A true local gem. Try it once and you’ll be back so often they’ll start greeting you by name.Kim

This place is run by a beautiful couple that put heart and soul into their food and service. Loved the chicken schnitzel- The most moist chicken breast I can remember having. I arrived at 1:30 and was politely told they closed at 2. The waitress was hospitable and I was told to take my time. I will definitely come back for breakfast. The ingredients were fresh and the flavour plentiful. Worth the drive and I hope more locals find out about it and support small business that is run with love. Thanks Linsey and Marshall. Loved the decor. The drive past the bridge on illawara Lake feels like a holiday as Linsey said. See you next time! Lovely atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating.

What a find 👓. The food was fresh, simple, and done really well — generous portions and very reasonably priced for the quality. No overcomplication, just good, honest flavours. The coffee was excellent too. Friendly, efficient service that made the whole experience even better.

Stopped in after seeing the reviews and was absolutely blown away, I can't get over how good the Kia-Ora Bowl with Chicken was; Delicious and nourishing. My partner got the Tropical wrap and we both got the Peach Iced Teas. All phenomenal. Can't wait to convince him to go back here!
