Newcastle Civic Park sits in the heart of Newcastle's CBD with open lawns, mature trees, a central fountain, and a war memorial — locals describe it as a peaceful spot to sit and watch the city go by. The park has a cafe, playground, BBQs, and free 30-minute parking near the library, though street parking around the perimeter is limited.

Dogs can be off-leash in the designated leash-free area; on-leash applies elsewhere. The Memorial Walk and the 10-metre zone around the playground are dog-free at all times. City of Newcastle patrols leash-free areas, so check signage on arrival for the specific off-leash boundaries.

Dog rules

Dogs must be on a leash at all times in public places unless in a designated leash-free area. Dogs are not permitted on the Memorial Walk or within 10 metres of a playground. Leash-free areas are patrolled and penalties apply for non-compliance. Source: City of Newcastle – Leash Free Areas (newcastle.nsw.gov.au/living/residents/pets-and-animals/leash-free-areas)

Well maintained grass and gardens. Free 30min parking near library and quick access to public toilet is good to remember.

A large park with sunshine and shady spots. The fountain and gardens are nice and the memorial to the fallen is restored and respectful of the men and women who gave their lives. There is some parking around the parameter of the park but it’s very limited and depending on the day and time you will be required to pay.

Pretty hard to find parking. No toilet. The Library isn't called by its name. Pretty buildings in the area

Quiet with plenty of space. It was great to sit in the shade and read or just listen to the sound of the amazing fountain.
