Cathedral Park is a dog-friendly park in Newcastle with plenty of shade. Just 200m away, Ka-fey cafe is a nearby spot to stop in after your walk.
Dogs must be on a leash at all times in public places unless in a designated leash-free area. Dogs are not permitted on the Memorial Walk or within 10 metres of a playground. Leash-free areas are patrolled and penalties apply for non-compliance. Source: City of Newcastle – Leash Free Areas (newcastle.nsw.gov.au/living/residents/pets-and-animals/leash-free-areas)
Visiting Christ church via the cathedral park is a nice experience. On each step are names of deceased who are buried there. Definitely visit the tower
My wife and I attended this location to watch the fireworks on New Years Eve. The park was tidy and has good views of the city and harbour. There are a number of tombstones still evident in the park as it was a graveyard for early Newcastle. The stairs leading from king Street to the park are steep, so you need to be in reasonable walking condition to make it. Another entry to the park can be from the front of the Catedral which is a flat walk.
Fabulous harbour views. Make sure you stick to the pathways or be very careful walking on the steep slope under the trees. We went under the trees and the hard seeds or berries dropped by the trees caused a slip. Just a bruise but be careful.
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
