Shoal Bay Foreshore Reserve is a dog-friendly park where dogs are welcome on lead. With waterside surrounds and plenty of shade, it's a pleasant spot for a relaxed walk with your dog. You'll find BBQs and toilets nearby, while Zenith Cafe, Restaurant and Bar is less than 100 metres away for an easy post-walk drink.

Dog rules

Dogs are permitted on-leash at this reserve under Port Stephens Council policy — all council reserves that are not designated off-leash or prohibited are on-leash areas. Dogs must be under effective control at all times. (Source: Port Stephens Council.)

Beautiful reserve and lovely walk along the water. Lots of shady port Jackson fig trees. Picnic tables. Plenty of paid parking but would imagine in holiday times the place would be packed.

A Fabulous location, providing brilliant walking tracks along the waterfront, and for the more energetic people why not walk up the mountain? ( I am unable to walk up the mountain so I asked people who have and there are two routes you can take. One is easier while the other route is more challenging if you are walking directly to the top ). This reserve offers a very relaxing outlook as you can see from the photos. Ample bench seating, from under sheltered tables and bench seats located along the walking paths. I observed people using their mobility scooters with ease. The Port Stephens Council certainly provides excellent facilities if you have difficulty with your mobility and you just need to exercise at your own pace. Well done. I frequent the Zenith Cafe Restaurant and Bar across the road for what I believe serves the best coffee that I have had during my travels. Parking isn't a problem along the foreshore but I would imagine that during the warmer days, it could mean a short walk though. There are steps leading down to the beach with great handrail support. Be careful if there is sand on the step treads it may be a touch slippery. This location is well worth a visit if you are in the Port Stephens location.

What a gem Shoal Bay Foreshore is. Most times the foreshore is just a way of getting somewhere else. But this place has it all going on. Location is absolutely stunning of the beautiful coastline. There are plenty of places to sit should you like one. Tables and chairs provided some being under cover for people looking to do a picnic lunch by the sea. BBQ area also available which is fantastic in such a great spot. There are toilets at both ends of the foreshore, the ones I used at the far end were clean and well stocked with supplies.

You can climb up the vantage point, it takes around 30 minutes to reach the top. The view is worth the effort. There are no restaurants or shops nearby but I remember seeing an ice cream cart near the entrance.

Beautiful foreshore walk with a couple of paths stretching to each end of Shoal Bay and well beyond. Very accessible and there are a couple of cafes along the walk
