Dog rules

Dogs are welcome on-leash at Kentucky Reserve, a Canterbury-Bankstown Council park. One of my favourite places to run by the river. It's mostly shaded which makes pleasant on a warm day. Not too busy, including weekends. Gets muddy after rain is only negative.

This place has something for just about everyone. It doesn't matter whether you're into fishing from the jetty; visiting a restraunt; any kind of boating activity; the carwash or even the tennis courts across the road. Located in Rabaul Rd at the intersection of Rabaul Rd and Henry Lawson Drv., traffic sometimes makes leaving a bit of a chore. That minor problem considered, the rest is excellent. There is a public covenience (Single unit electronic) located in the car park with excellent wheelchair access, but right at the very busy intersection rather than nearer the picnic area. There are two covered, six to eight person picnic ables and a free, covered dual-burner gas Barbie. The car park has more than enough spaces for the picnic area, including a couple of marked bays for the handicapped. As well there are ample long spaces for vehicles with trailers attached. So there's no need to unhook after parking the trailer. And all well laid out for the good sized boat ramp and well appointed jetty that goes with it. The car park is also handy to a string of slightly elevated restraunts adjacent. All set up for dining out on the balcony, overlooking the picturesque jetty, boat ramp and the ample car park, with more parking at the rear. Next door there is a car/jetski/boat wash with its own coffee shop which is next door again to an independent service station and yet another restraunt across the main road. But wait- there's still more for the enthusiast. For the cyclist, there is a sealed cycle-way that runs from the jetty, through the natural, tree studded reserve to and under Newbridge Rd. to Gordon Parker Reserve. Well maintained by Bankstown Council, Kentucky Reserve is ideal for a short stop or a longer one while dining at one of the restaurant or a day in the boat. Vehicles can be left with confidence, as the entire Carpark can be seen from anywhere on the site and is under video surveillance. Well worth a visit any day.

A beutifull spot of the georges river with a unfortunate past . My friends 82 year old mother who grew up in the area often spoke of a well known shark attack that occurred in 1934 at dusk in the waters of the kentucky reserve in which the 13 year old girl who was the victim survived but unfortunately lost both arms after a terrifying attack from a large shark.

Kentucky Reserve is the beginning of a walk along Georges River. Which was developed some years ago and it's quite a pleasant walk except for the mosquitoes. They carry Ross River fever which in my experience , was debilitating for several weeks. Across the road there are tennis courts for hire and a golf course both quite nice.
