First time customer found this place on google whilst looking for cake shops that do red velvet cake or the popular watermelon cake. Ended up coming here Saturday afternoon just before they closed in the hopes I could get my hands on either cake for my daughters birthday the next day. So glad I did I could not be happier. The gentleman who served me was so patient and polite gave me his opinions on both cakes for me decide. Ended up going with watermelon cake and so happy it was all gone and everyone loved it. So moist and fresh and definitely worth it. Prices are very reasonable and it helps being able to get something last minute. Will definitely be coming back in the future.
Ramsgate Cakery is a small suburban gem that does what so many big bakeries have forgotten, it bakes with traditional simplicity and genuine care. These are small-batch, homemade cakes made with fresher, simpler ingredients, and you can absolutely taste the difference. Compared to bulk, store-made cakes that rely on additives, preservatives, and stabilisers for shelf life, the cakes here are richer, more balanced, and far more satisfying. The flavour is real, not manufactured. I’ve been coming here for over 5 years now. I’m not a local, but whenever I’m in the area I make a point of stopping by that alone says a lot. Over the years I’ve had many conversations with the owners a husband and wife team who are genuinely beautiful people inside and out. I’m always greeted with a smile, and what really stands out is that it’s not just me, every customer who walks through the door is treated with the same warmth, respect, and kindness.
We just popped in for the Portuguese tart. Just one. It was after a failed experiment at getting a scone from another nearby cafe. So we needed saving. Just a little something to get the palate back on track. To restore faith in local bakeries. To feel human again. The tart did not disappoint. Crunchy. Smooth. Tasty.
I had the pleasure of having the fruit custard tart and the famous Portuguese tart today. Both so delicious, I wish had discovered this place sooner. Such lovely and down-to-earth owners too. Will be coming back.
What a gem! The Portuguese tart was just amazing! Good coffee and the owner's friendly! Definitely worth checking out if you're in Ramsgate! I'd go there every week for the Portuguese tart if I live close!
