We enjoyed the Pints & Pups event last Sunday, hosted by the Metro for Dog Rescue Newcastle. We were met at the door by pub dog Devon and given a warm welcome. Wonderful to experience an old pub true to its era but with a range of good beers and reasonably priced food. And dog friendly too, what a bonus!

Today, Friday 16th February, I was starving and thought I would try the Metropolitan. I ordered potato gnocci, with creamy sauce and parmasen cheese, with prawns. $31- I was presented with a bowl of what appeared to be curdled cream, pools of orange oil, some green tit bits and really, it looked like vomit. How can a chef present that!? I was so hungry, I ate the prawns and carefully hooked the prawns out. This would have to be the worst meal I have come across in years. If I hadn't been so exhausted, I would have asked the chef....is this OK? Anyway, I hope the food improves, for the owner's sake, but I won't be going back....too tired to take photos.

Great vibes, great beers BUT the Chicken schnitzel was very over cooked, dry and contained one of the thinnest peices of chicken i have ever been served. Couldn't finish as it wasnt edible. The cook needs to take more pride in what he sends out the door

Nothing better than a pint of beer on a sunny Sunday. Tables out front in the breeze. Lovely. Beautiful looking menu of tasty meals, though we just got a snack plate to share. Friendly service. An interesting modern touch on an old dame from yesteryear... 1872.
