East Sydney Hotel in Woolloomooloo has the feel of a country pub dropped into the inner city — warm community, unpretentious, and well-priced. Dogs are welcome, and Sunday live jazz adds a relaxed weekend dimension. Embarkation Park is around 240 metres away for an off-leash session with harbour views.
Dogs are allowed downstairs and at the outdoor tables.
Far more character than hotel chain, authentic friendly, (no pokies or screens) old pub below, clean spacious rooms, balcony with city view at decent price and walking distance to CBD / attractions. Will definitely book again next time in Sydney.
We really enjoyed our stay. The place was clean and tidy. It had a great atmosphere and is great value. Well located in the city. Would definitely stay again.
I found this to be perfectly reasonable and well priced. The carpet needs replacing but this was my only complaint. The room had a TV and fan, with access to free tea, coffee and water. There is no breakfast but there is a Woolworth’s supermarket nearby. It is very well located and the bar downstairs is not loud. It is an after work bar and the third oldest in Sydney. We didn’t understand the bad reviews!
My experience was related to the bar. Friendly staff, welcoming upon entering with a ‘hello’ which is always nice. The food was decent - I had the green goddess salad with chicken as extra and my partner ordered the schnitzel. Both tasted good, although I think the schnitzel was on the smaller side to what I’m used to. But overall good. Would return for a beer and maybe a parmi next.
The hotel room was spacious and in a nice location. The place though is very old.. it smells old and feels like it might fall apart but it has a charm. The rooms share a bathroom which unfortunately was clearly not cleaned every day. I would really recommend to improve the cleanness here. In general we liked it especially because of the location. It’s so so central and a bargain for its price. But yeah, don’t expect modernity and extra cleanliness. Also.. The bar downstairs connected to the hotel was nice and sane for the staff
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
