Great spot to have breakfast or lunch. Very central for people/dog watching, and dog friendly outside.
I visited Cafe Newtown in June 2026 while visiting Sydney and staying with a friend nearby. After finally dragging myself out of the house around midday, a few friends and I headed out in search of breakfast and quickly found ourselves at Cafe Newtown. The cafe sits right on one of Newtown’s main intersections, directly across from Newtown Station, making it incredibly easy to find. It’s in a fantastic location surrounded by all the energy and character that Newtown is known for. There is street parking around the area for those driving in, but with the station literally across the road, public transport is definitely one of the easiest ways to get there. The first thing that caught my eye was the exterior. The building is absolutely charming, with outdoor tables, shade umbrellas and plenty of character. It has a very welcoming look and the interior lived up to expectations. The space is modern and beautifully decorated, filled with greenery, interesting trinkets and little details that make it feel warm and inviting. There was plenty of seating available both inside and out, and I could easily imagine spending an hour or two there watching the world go by. The food display looked incredible, with plenty of sweet and savoury options available, and the menu offered even more choices. After much consideration, I settled on a mango smoothie and a ham and cheese croissant. One of my friends ordered a red velvet milkshake, which I also got to try and can confirm was absolutely delicious. Despite being reasonably busy, our food and drinks were ready in about ten minutes. We ended up taking everything to go because we had plans to explore more of Sydney, but the atmosphere was so lovely that I would happily dine in next time. My croissant was exactly what I wanted for breakfast. It was warm, flaky and packed with flavour, while the mango smoothie was incredibly refreshing and full of real fruit flavour. Both hit the spot perfectly and set me up for the day ahead. My friend’s red velvet milkshake was equally impressive and definitely something I’d consider ordering on a future visit. The staff were lovely throughout our visit. They were friendly, efficient and kept everything moving smoothly despite the steady flow of customers coming through the cafe. What I loved most about Cafe Newtown was the atmosphere. It feels like one of those local places that has become part of the fabric of the community. Between the historic building, the beautiful interior, the friendly staff and the constant flow of locals passing through, it has a genuine neighbourhood feel that’s becoming harder to find. I absolutely loved Cafe Newtown. The food was delicious, the drinks were fantastic, and the space itself was beautiful. Whether you’re grabbing something to take away before catching a train or settling in for a long brunch, it’s a wonderful little cafe right in the heart of Newtown. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in Sydney.
Nice food and good atmosphere. And the service was kind and thoughtful. Thank you for the service

Nice please to start the day. Just don’t get an Anzac biscuit. They are not anywhere near an Anzac biscuit. Tasteless.
