Matt Hogan Reserve

Dogs welcome — rules applyDog rules

Updated 15 Apr 2026

Matt Hogan Reserve is a dog-friendly park in Newtown where dogs are welcome on lead. You'll find shaded space nearby, while Flour Drum is around 200 metres away for an easy post-walk coffee.

Dog rules

Reviews and community photos confirm dogs are welcome at Matt Hogan Reserve. The reserve is not listed on Inner West Council's off-leash areas page (only Camperdown Memorial Rest Park is listed off-leash for Newtown), so dogs must be kept on leash. A user review explicitly states dogs "must be on leash". (Sources: Google reviews + community photos; Inner West Council "Dogs in parks" page.)

Smallish park with playground and lots of shade and grass. Dogs must be on leash.

THERE IS A BUSH TURKEY (or brush turkey) HANGING OUT HERE! Never seen one so far south of the harbour, spotted it three times in the last month (as at 6/1/24). Other reason to visit - from halfway down you can check out the apartment building to the east with ivy that's swallowed one apartment and is slowly invading another. Nice and green cut-through from Alice St to Camden St with a decent little playground for young kids, bins at either end and grass where people let their little dogs run around. Apols for terrible pics, holding pup at bay at same time.

This is a great little park, with so many aspects. There is a children's playground, modern and well equipped. There are sunny areas and shaded, leafy areas. There is also the odd picnic table. The whole place feels like a garden, and feels peaceful. I would recommend this place for peace, picnics, sunbathing and local gatherings. I like it here.

Small park that runs from Camden to Alice streets. Good place for a rest or to get grass under-feet for a while after the maze of concrete and asphalt.
