Great spot to take photos of the harbor 🌉 from a different angle instead of circular quay Opened in 1996, the park is named after the Aboriginal word for stone reflecting the importance of the material quarried from Pyrmont.Giba Park is on the cliff-top at the end of Point Street, overlooking Pyrmont Point Park and Sydney Harbour. Giba Park is a stunning cliff-top destination at the end of Point Street, offering some of the most spectacular elevated views in the inner city. Its name, derived from the Aboriginal word for "stone," pays homage to the sandstone heritage of the Pyrmont area. It is a particularly popular spot for those seeking a quieter alternative to the harbor's more crowded vantage points. Breathtaking Vistas: The park provides panoramic views that span from the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Barangaroo across Johnstons Bay to Balmain and the Anzac Bridge. Dog-Friendly Freedom: One of the few parks in the area offering 24/7 off-leash access, though owners should note it is completely unfenced with terraced drops. Unique Sandstone Features: Visitors frequently comment on the beautifully carved sandstone seating and staircases that integrate the park’s industrial history into its modern aesthetic. Event Vantage Point: Its high elevation makes it a prime (though regulated) spot for viewing New Year's Eve fireworks and other harbor celebrations. The park serves as a serene retreat for locals and visitors alike, blending open grassy terraces with quiet, shaded corners. It is an ideal location for a scenic picnic or a sunset walk, offering a "top of the world" feel right in the heart of Pyrmont. Accessibility: Features lift access from Pirrama Road and wheelchair-accessible paths, making the steep headland reachable for everyone. Local Convenience: While the park itself is tranquil, it is just a short walk from the cafes and amenities of Jones Bay Wharf and the adjacent Pirrama Park. Water Stations: Modern water stations equipped with dog bowls are available to keep both humans and pets hydrated. Giba Park is a hidden gem for anyone wanting to experience Sydney’s harbor beauty from a unique, elevated perspective. Whether you are a dog owner, a photography enthusiast, or simply looking for a peaceful place to unwind, this park delivers a high-quality experience without the typical tourist crowds.
Beautiful park, serene setting that offers panoramic views of Sydney facing the Barangaroo towers and Harbour Bridge. Immense views from all corners, good seating available. A few too many dogs roaming around without a leash but I digress.
Visited this park for the first time to watch the New Year’s fireworks. Beautiful spot and has a great view of the harbour and the city. From here we could watch the fireworks happening at 3 other locations. The crowd was also well managed by organisers. Apart from that, the park has a calm, relaxed atmosphere that makes it ideal for families, dog walkers, and anyone looking to unwind outdoors.
One of the best spot to see New Year’s fireworks as its located in a bit higher ground and it has stunning views.
A lovely park with a high elevation to watch the Nye fireworks from. The NYE event is regulated so you cannot bring in glass (no wine or beer bottles) so plan around this.
We check council regulations, official sources, and community reviews to verify dog access at every venue. Access may change — always check on-site signage. Something wrong or missing? Submit feedback. How it works.
